Q: major difference between Br1500G and BX 1500M?

There are several differences but one major one for me is that the BR can accept an external battery (BR24BPG) which essentially triples run time while the BX model cannot accept an external battery. Yes, the BR is more money but IMO it's worth it.

Q: How quiet is this UPS, have you measured it with a decibel meter?

It only makes noise when running on battery. I haven't noticed it at all when power was available.

Q: does this run on battery power for 10 hours or more?

From the specifications: The built-in battery provides up to 13 minutes of runtime at half load or 3 minutes at full load, so you can properly shut down your system in instances of extended length power outages. So if your power supply is rated at 400 watts and you have a 24" led (usual draw is around 40 watts) also connected, it will run for 13 minutes. Hope this helps!

Its a stepped simulated approximation sinewave, It should be compatible with most computer power supplies (although more sensitive electronics lab equipment may notice a difference) None of the computers I have connected to it have indicated any issue. Most battery backups need to simulate the output wave (either output a square, saw, or stepped sign wave) due to the issues converting the DC battery output to AC sine waves.

It is legit. I don't think you will find anyone really willing to take a picture of the serial number as that would be like posting your driver's license on the internet.

Yes I am doing it right now myself. Although the first one that was sent to me was defective and needed to RMA it. The second one seems to be working fine for now. I have had it for just over 1 week since I have received the replacement unit.

Question 1

How old is the battery on the new units? Manufacturer said they could be as old as two years when buying new. Is that true?

Going completely from memory, I thought I saw 5 months had elapsed from the time of manufacture to the time it is on my desk.

The units arrive with a printout of test data and various info taped to the side, looks like a cash register receipt.

Should point out that UPS batteries do not last as long as car batteries, and if the temperature gets higher (like 90F at work, I cannot change that), the batteries last even less, I am lucky to get two years at work. You will most likely need to buy a replacement in the future.

You would do well to buy from a high volume dealer, that hopefully does first-in first out just-in-time inventory. Newegg is high volume.

I have had a bad instance with when buying replacement APC batteries for work, but I cannot recall the seller. It was not Newegg. An internet search will give you various companies that sell replacement batteries.

Question 2

My gaming system has a 1200 watt power supply. Is this an acceptable unit to use or do I need to consider a better unit? I only need enough time to properly shut down my equipment during an outage

It is less about how many watts your power supply is capable of outputting and more about what hardware you actually have in your PC. I have an i7-4790K, two GTX 780Tis in SLI, and the normal accessories (everything stock speeds). A quick Google search for "pc power supply calculator" yielded several results which all suggest my PC probably uses around 725 watts under load. This seems about right as I had done my own power consumption test on my previous single GPU rig (i7, GTX 580) and that was around 578 watts under load.

Another Google search for "ups runtime calculator" got a few hits that suggestion a 1500VA ups will last close to 6 minutes under a 725 watt load. If your rig is only single GPU and not super high-end then I would assume you would get 12-15 minutes under full load. If you have your monitor(s) plugged into the battery as well then don't forget to add them in to the runtime calculation. My single 28" LCD monitor says it uses "<60w" so I say call that 60 watts.

TL:DR

This UPS should power a single GPU PC at full load with no overclocking and an LCD monitor on battery for 10 minutes or more. Under non-gaming load you will probably get double that.
