This review is from: SYBA SD-SATA2-4IR PCI SATA II (3.0Gb/s) RAID Controller Card
Pros:
Cheap and simple to install into PCI slot. Setup on the other hand was more technical involvement.
Cons:
One should flash to most updated Raid Bios. As other have said is fake raid I don't know but what I do know is I set the Raid function to "Spare drive" only. As for problems I haven't see them yet but only time will tell with this card. Oh yeah since I have XP sp3 you have to go to Control Panel and then to "Performance and Maintenance" and to "Administrative tools" and then to "Computer management" and then to "Storage" then to "Disk management" where it will locate the drive and that is where you setup the drive to be initailized and then you can format the drive from Windows. This involved more technical background knowledge to figure this out and glad that I had the experience to help me with this.
Overall Review:
My advice for anyone deciding on getting this card flash to lastest Bios and updated to latest drivers. Then go into the Raid functions and just set to "Spare Drive" this to me is the most logical way to go cause if you change the settings in the Raid you will loose any data on the drive as the result of the change. Also well as, if you hooked this Raid HDD created to a motherboard SATA it might wipe out any data on the HDD that was set as Raid from the Syba card. It would be good to know that Syba would give more instructions as to the setup from windows as eluded in my previous Cons response. I give it 3 stars cause of the headache I had to go through to get it to work with my WD 1TB HDD.
