Good but not Great 03/16/2011
This review is from: SilverStone AP121 Case cooler
Pros:
- High static pressure
- Very quiet
- Got 2 during the 20% off all fans promo, so combined price was fairly cheap.
- Nice sleeving.
Cons:
- A bit weak in airflow, I am aware it does 35CFM max, but still weaker than I expected it to be overall.
- Molex connector on the fan doesn't have both male/female connectors
- Tested it in an open air environment where I had a piece of paper a meter away and the fan barely moves the paper just to see the level of effectiveness it brought.
Overall Review:
It's not a bad fan, but fulfills a certain niche for a case intake fan, some may try it on a heatsink or radiator due to it's static pressure (I've tried it on a Thermalright Silver Arrow) but I don't think it does enough to warrant usage there. I got 2 of these to basically put onto the side of my HAF 932's side panel to intake air to cool my video card, mobo and cpu a bit more, but results are probably 0.5-1c better than the stock 200/230mm CM fan that came with the case. A bit disappointing but it wasn't too bad. As long as these fans are used for intake even at 12v they're rather quiet. Don't expect much more from them though. I may try the AP181's some day and just use some ghetto zipties to help it stick onto the HAF 932 side panel, hopefully those yield better results.
