This review is from: BIOSTAR A870 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard
Pros:
Simple layout for builders who want a simple setup. Probably would have been great had it not been for my particular problem.
Cons:
Serious overheating cpu issues. See other thoughts
Overall Review:
Ok so I decided to upgrade from an AM3/AM2+ board with DDR2 RAM to an AM3 only board with DDR3 RAM. Everything else in my system was the same when installing the board, other than the RAM. Ever since installing, my cpu idles at anywhere from 50c to 75c. Under load it went as high as 105c before I shut it down (I disabled the failsafe to see how hot it would get). I replaced all the case fans, used compressed air to clean everything, used thermal compound remover and then replaced with fresh thermal compound twice! Still no change. Yet with the same setup using my old mobo and RAM, you can cut the above values in half. Awaiting a response from Biostar (emailed on Saturday) but it looks like I'm going to have to RMA this board.
