VisionTek Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card 900250
  • 2GB 512-Bit GDDR5
  • 2 x DVI 1 x HDMI (via Adapter)
  • 3200 (1600 x 2) Stream Processors
  • PCI Express 2.0 x16

Pros:

Still fast enough to run any game I have ever tried to throw at it with either max or near max settings.
Whether this is due to great hardware or a lack of innovation among game developers I do not know.
None the less, I do not regret the $550 I spent on it back in October 2008 even though that is a lot. It is still working great and unless it fails on me I plan to use it for at least another hardware generation or two.
It is not DX11 of course but not a feature that I feel is used enough yet to need an upgrade.

I do run the card slightly overclocked to 782 gpu clocks to squeeze out a tiny bit more performance and it seems to run fine with no crashing and F@H has no errors so it seems stable.

Cons:

VisionTek customer support? do they have any? I don't think so -_-#
When I first got the card I was having some issues which I thought was the gpu at fault so tried to get some tech support from them. Yeah... good luck with that.
took like 2 weeks just for a reply to an email or online post. Then their suggestions were completely useless. Yes the card is seated properly, yes my psu is rated to run this card very well! sheesh. anyway I am never buying from them again. luckily my card is fine.

Other cons:
hotter than the sun I suppose? and a room heater as others have mentioned. though in the winter that is kind of a pro for me lol. It is especially hot when I leave F@H on both cores 24/7 as I have been doing lately.

With the stock air cooler it was also loud as a hair dryer when I cranked the speed up to keep it cooler.

Overall Review:

I run a custom water cooling system in my rig so the heat and noise the gpu once made are a non issue now.
I highly recommend anyone who is running a good water cooling system to think about sticking a water cooling block on their 4870x2. makes a huge difference. silent except for water pump and other large case fans and temps on the gpus are max around 60 degrees Celsius maybe 70 or so with a furmark running for a while.
