1st DOA second slow and noisy 03/27/2013
This review is from: WD Re 3TB Datacenter Capacity Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM Class SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 inch WD3000FYYZ
Pros:
Not much at this point. Regret the purchase.
Cons:
1st Drive was drumming its heads from the moment I powered it up... Newegg quickly replaced it for me... or as quick as return ship and wait gets...
Second drive runs but makes more noise than it should and is noticeably slower in performance that it should be.
Overall Review:
All in all, this is why the HD manufactures are doomed. They are all putting out trash products with high DOA and in-life failure rates. My firm uses SSDs for anything under 250GB now and as soon as the 500's get down to the $250 range, will make that move as well. Give it another year or two and the HD manufactures might as well bag it and sell all of their interests to China... they have nobody to blame but themselves for the crash in quality over the last couple of years.
Manufacturer Response:
We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with the WD RE, as this is not the typical experience with the product.
Our drives are rigorously tested to ensure they are in good working condition before they leave our warehouses, and for this reason it is unfortunate that you have received a dead on arrival (DOA) drive. We do stand behind our warranty and replacement policy, and would appreciate the opportunity to replace your drive for you directly, if necessary.
As a troubleshooting step, we recommend running either our WINDLG diagnostics software or Macs built-in Disk Utility to check your drives health.
