Quality Cooler 05/14/2014
This review is from: Thermaltake CL-P002-AL14RE-A 140mm NiC L32 Aluminum CPU Cooler
Pros:
Quality Cooling
Clears Everything in my case and on my motherboard.
Quiet Operation even at full speed.
Relatively easy install on AM3+ mobo.
Cons:
Almost blocked the CPU fan header on my motherboard, almost.
I can't find anywhere to buy a second fan (no link from Thermaltake's website), and it's not a standard 140mm (different mounting holes, no extra hardware anyway). If you plan on getting a second fan, try to see if anyone is selling it first. Personally, a second fan would bump into my side-intake, so it's not really bugging me.
Overall Review:
Installed on my ASRock 990FX mobo with a stock-setting FX 8350. Running all cores 100% with Fold-At-Home, keeps the CPU under 50C, under 30C above ambient. The stock cooler that came with the CPU let it reach almost 50C above ambient (70C total), so this is a great improvement.
Only thing I really didn't like was that fact that there's no indication on WHEN to stop with screws for the backplate. It has a foam front to provide isolation from the back of the board, so I just kept turning the screws until I felt it was secure (too far, and I probably would have pushed electrical contacts through the foam).
Nothing worth deducting an egg over.
