- 3TB, SATA 6Gb/s, 64MB
- Higher performance with Seagate AcuTrac servo technology
- Best for Desktop or all-in-one PCs, home servers and Entry-level (DAS)
Ok, I guess, but not good for NAS 07/01/2014
This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Pros:
The drives themselves caused no problems at first.
Cons:
After a year and 9 months of use in a QNAP TS-212 nas, two of these drives failed with bad sectors. These drives aren't really rated for NAS use with their stock firmware - I recommend looking at other products for use in any kind of RAID setup
Overall Review:
I deducted 2 eggs because of the short life of these drives, and that they developed head crashes without being touched after less than two years. I've had problems with other seagate devices before, with similar issues - bad sectors and read/write failures on an external hard drive storage unit.
I'll note that I have a couple WD drives I'm replacing these with, rated for NAS, that are 4 TB for around $50/drive extra.
