no warranty support for dead SSD modules; never came close to performance claims when it did work 08/09/2016
This review is from: SAMSUNG 950 PRO M.2 2280 256GB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V5P256BW
Pros:
- Compact storage module
- Diagnostic software, optimized drivers
Cons:
- IOPS were never any better than a SATA-3 SSD, and never as good as a PCIe mSATA card from Plextor.
- Terribly inconvenient to find interfaces physically compatible with M-key devices like this.
- Module died after less than seven months of light usage.
Overall Review:
Avoid M-keyed devices until the storage industry catches up with itself, and supporting accessories become more common. When using one of these modules as a boot device, it's also hard to interface a second module to create an identical duplicate. In that regard, Samsung and other M-key module producers have failed badly to ship supporting accessories. It would be reasonable to expect a SATA adapter tray or USB3 adapter for these modules for boot device duplication.
I wish I had never purchased either this module or its 512GB counterpart. Neither one ever delivered on the promised performance even when installed in a 16-lane motherboard slot in a core i7 system with plenty of bandwidth, and the Samsung drivers installed and active.
