Pros:

It's thin, seems quite light and I love the features I bought it for, back lit keyboard, screen and its resolution, dual storage drives and fast processor...

Cons:

However, upon connecting to the internet it downloaded an updated wireless driver which broke the wifi connection so I had to manually install the latest driver, the only choice from the MSI website was a beta driver. This is really disappointing that MSI could not convince Windows that the working drivers are the best ones. Allowing faulty drivers to be downloaded and installed screams of incompetence.

However, whilst the keyboard is very nice, the mouse buttons are hard to depress and very noisy/clicky. Apparently this is, according to MSI, a 'gaming' touch pad although I know of NO-ONE [cue here for all those that do] who games with a touch pad and my previous laptop, an HP, had buttons that were soft and silent like the keys on the keyboard. Given that everything is trying to be silent for gaming [fans, psu etc.] it seems odd that this touch pad is so noisy; yeah, I don't like this. I don't like this at all. I hate using a mouse but I think I will have to at home since the touch pad buttons are so awful.

However, there is no application button [a keyboard equivalent to the mouse right click] - I had to download a utility to override the second '\' key. whose stupid idea was it to have two '\' keys on a keyboard. Whilst I am here, the windows key on the right of the keyboard is a little odd, very unusual but I'll get used to that.

The sound is very quiet after my previous HP. Even at full volume I could not hear a program I was watching on Netflix whilst eating chips which makes me think this niamic sound may be good quality but is so quiet it cannot be heard properly or enjoyed. Mixer shows max vol, as does the vol indicator in Netflix so I cannot eat and watch netflix as I could on my previous laptop. How disappointing.

I am sure I will learn to enjoy this machine eventually [it's my eleventh laptop in about 20 years or so] but its the little things that designers really don't think through that spoil a thing.

Overall Review:

What would I change? make the keyboard more standard and make the mouse buttons softer; they are going to cause finger strain for me and I do so hate mice and the overall volume louder. Would I buy another? Probably not, I would look more closely at other makes. Would I recommend one to others; as always, be careful how you spend your money.

Edit: Update: I had to re-install the sound drivers too which corrected the sound issues I was having. I will probably re-install all the drivers, not something I expect to do on a prebuilt laptop; it is disappointing.
