Elegent, When It Works 06/25/2007
This review is from: WD Passport Portable 80GB USB 2.0 2.5" External Hard Drive WDXMS800TN
Pros:
Small size and light weight plastic case makes it very portable. Syncing software useful in most cases. It looks elegent. Single USB cable makes it easy to connect.
Cons:
Write Delay Failures increased in frequency, as did data corruption. Reformatting helped for a few weeks but problems returned. Data easily corrupted if USB cable removed before Safely Remove Hardware Permission given, which may take several tries. USB cable only 9 inches long. Worse, the drive may not work in the front USB port of computer, nor from a powered USB 2 HUB.
Overall Review:
Drive's unreliability not critical as long as it was only used to carry data between home and work computer, and not as a back-up. For now, using a U3-capable 4 GB Thumb Drive ($60) with DMailer Sync Software (18 minutes to sync 2 GBs) Hopefully, the replacement WD drive will be more reliable.
