Pros: -Quick boot up -Newest 11th gen Intel i-5 chip -Surprisinly fast, even without upgrading RAM -Bright FHD screen -Newest WiFi 6 -Plenty of useful ports incl. Type-C -Upgraded graphics -Relatively light given its size -Great PC for a budget-ish machine
Cons: -Numeric keypad is small/cramped -Way too much bloatware/games installed -Okay battery but wish it lasted a couple more hours. Still plenty of juice for normal use
Overall Review: I was looking for a replacement for a budget Acer E15 that was great when new but now slow after 5 years despite RAM upgrades. This machine blows the older Acer out of the water. Faster, lighter, with 512gb of SSD storage. Can easily be upgraded to 20gb RAM (total)--be sure to get 16gb ddr4-2666 SODIMM single OR dual rank. (I mention this because it was really hard to track down exactly what type of RAM upgrade to purchase.) Shipping was fast--it arrived 2 days before expected from Newegg. Only problem: Newegg packed the computer box in a too large outer box without enough cushioning material. The inner box was rattling around. PC was fine, but still...not well protected at all.
Pros: Decent build quality, fast performance with 11th Gen i5 processor, HD display, good battery life, RAM expandability, large storage capacity, strong WiFi antennae.
Cons: Trackpad not the most responsive or accurate. Bottom plate is difficult to open.
Overall Review: My sister needed to replace her old 17" MacBook Pro, which died after 10+ years of good service but wasn't looking to spend too much. Unfortunately, the cheapest Apple options are 13" and almost twice as expensive. After much consideration, I determined her use case did not require macOS. Picked up this laptop during Black Friday and got a great deal! Offers a lot of pros for the price. Her eyes get strained looking at a smaller screen. Thankfully, this display with HD resolution is easy on the eyes and large enough for her taste. It comes with 4Gb of onboard RAM and a 4Gb SO-DIMM. I replaced it with 16Gb DD4, totaling 20Gb, giving her enough RAM to handle anything she throws at it. A couple weeks in and she loves it! Essentially, if you're looking for a well-spec'd machine to remained "future-proofed to handle routine use like emails, web browsing, video conferencing, distance learning, and video-streaming, this one won't disappoint. While I haven't tried to do so, I doubt this unit will be much for gaming. Happy with it overall; time will tell how long it can last since we tend to keep our computers as long as possible.
Pros: Hits all the right buttons: 15.6 IPS 1080 display with Xe graphics, 11th generation i5 CPU with 8 GB RAM, 512 GB NVME SSD and ready for video calls and conferencing. Low power and quiet. Ready to go right out of the box. Crisp, responsive, and fairly easy to set up. It has compact dimensions and is fairly light weight but not overly delicate. The lighted keyboard has a good feel, the compact numeric keypad is adequate, and the touchpad works properly with gestures.
Overall Review: There were no rough edges that I could spot. I would recommend it for basic computing and browsing needs. Some knowledge of important features and specifications is useful but not required.
Pros: Excellent mid range laptop with latest specs... Runs apps very smooth and is very has very responsive performance..fast boot up times Nice IPS screen overall which is not normally seen in this price range Good overall build quality...nice touch with the aluminum lid Great web cam and better than other laptops I own...
Cons: Speakers are a bit cheesy sounding and not very loud Screen could be a bit brighter but still fine for indoor use
Overall Review: Definitely recommend this laptop over other brands in this price range
Pros: This is a sound PC for personal use. Price was good- 549.00 all in Intel i5 v11 processor while most retailers are offering v10. Good clock speed and RAM (8) relatively easy to set up (5-10) minutes. bluetooth was v 5.1 while most offer 5.0 good feeling keyboard. Camera quality decent for web conferencing, 512 SSD is a decent size for most newer laptops
Cons: -shipping was very slow. It showed label print and then the status of "waiting for pickup" of almost a week. That was very weird.
Overall Review: Outside of service this had everything I was looking for in a daily use laptop. If shipping was faster I would give it 5 stars.
Overall Review: Fast, very nice screen...I added 16GB Kingston ram for a total of 20GB.
Pros: Nice features. New I was getting a "budget" laptop. 11th Gen I5 seems pretty peppy for general office work, email, etc.
Cons: Not sure what is going on but when we tried to do a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro we couldn't see an internal hard drive. Bios settings are very minimal. Made changes inside BIOS but couldn't boot from a USB drive and install Windows 10 Pro. In legacy mode or with secure boot turned off each time we attempted a "clean" install we couldn't see the internal SSD. Ended up installing Windows 10 pro on top of the Windows home version (I prefer a fresh install but this worked). I really can't explain why we couldn't see the internal SSD when booting from a windows USB drive....never seen this before.
Overall Review: -Screen is OK (not super bright) Thumbs up for the 11th gen I5 intel chip Only 1 slot for ram - not sure why you'd design a system board this way. Positive for having 3 USB and a NIC slot. I hate having to buy dongles for some of the newer laptops.
Pros: There's a lot to like about the Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-56DJ especially at the cyber-sale price. In the mid-price range, it seems like there are always some compromises. This Acer laptop has fewer than most. I like the slim design, it has the look of more expensive laptops. The backlit keyboard, 512GB SSD, 1920x1080 display, and decent CPU are all plusses. In general, I'm pleased with the value and quality.
Cons: I think my biggest complaint is that the sound from the built-in speakers is underwhelming. It's hard to get enough volume in some situations, and there's very little bass response. (Understandable because of the slim design) As has been noted in some online reviews, the dedicated numeric keypad is a bit scrunched. I find myself hitting the decimal when I mean to hit zero. Battery life is about what you would expect, but certainly could be better. One might wish for a SD card reader. One frustrating thing was the lack of documentation. I had to do a lot of online searching to determine which USB port was the 2.0 (It's the one on the right side) This sounds like a long list of complaints, but with the exception of the sound, they are all very minor.
Overall Review: Bottom line is that this is (so far) an excellent choice if you can find it on sale. Hint: the MSRP on Acer's webpage is considerably more than the current advertised price.
