Is this product avail. with windows 8.1 ?
On Acer site this model has 2 2.0 usb ports and 1 3.0 which is true ?

Quick update: still no decision on the upgrade potential to Win 8.1
Upgraded my Win8 desktop without problems other than the standard hurry-up-and-wait model that Microsoft embraces.
When directed to the Windows Store, the upgrade option does not appear (even after installing all updates as recommended). When trying to access through Windows main site, nothing happens upon clicking the lovely blue "Get the free update" button. Nada.
Could be an issue of website overload (assuming that the world is rushing to upgrade) so will try again over the weekend.

Question 2

I recently purchased this product and despite the fact that it has a quad core and 6gb ram I have noticed it still chokes and freezes quite a bit ..... Would a SSD prevent the choking and freezing or is the quad core just too weak?????

Its the software.  Figure out what is choking up and why.  Is it the browser? Is it one of your applications?  Is it watching hd movies? Is.it Windows, it's self?

Remember, 100mhz was lightning fast at one point.

I use mine to run cad software and compile applications, which are both heavy tasks. It runs just fine.

The only annoyance I have is the track pad.

Question 3

Are the internals of this laptop accessible? I'm getting this for my mom and would like to swap out the HDD for an SSD. Would any 2.5" SSD I buy be able to sit well with this product?

I did the exact same thing on mine and yes, the back of the netbook has a series of screws on the edges and there is one below a rubber cover that needs to be removed.  Also, make sure that the "filler" SDCARD/ PCMCIA card is pulled out otherwise you will break the plastic when trying to remove the bottom to access the drive slot under the cover!  Start from the top right edge, and slowly work your way around prying the plastic bottom gently upward.  It comes off pretty easily.  Also, as far as which SSD will fit, make sure you ONLY get a SSD or HDD that is 7mm tall and NOT anything taller like 9.5mm as it will NOT fit!  Good luck :-)

One of the reviews says that the battery is NOT replaceable. Is that really true? If the battery is replaceable, what is the procedure and cost for the new battery? Thank you!

That appears to be correct, and this is a disadvantage.

On prior Acer models we've owned, the battery was a separate module that attached to the back of the notebook.  Users could easily detach existing battery and install a replacement, without tools or needing to open the case.

In contrast, the V5-122P-0637's battery is contained within the case, and the unit does not have switches allowing user to access or remove the battery without the use of tools.  The user's manual makes no mention of how to remove the internal battery when it requires replacement, so I presume the user will need to either obtain service, or figure out on their own how to open the case and replace the battery when it fails to hold a charge at the end of it's usable life.

Please note that Acer equipped the unit with a connector on the bottom, to allow connection of a second battery pack to extend the V5-122P's run time.  However this only addresses one of the two reasons a user would want to replace the battery.

Question 5

Does the Acer converter cable that is included only provide a VGA interface?  If so, I'd like to know which cable(s) Newegg sells that I can use to get an HDMI connection on this Acer Aspire V5-122P laptop.

Yes the included converter cable only does VGA. The converter cable has a VGA female port. The item number listed above is a 6' cable sold by new egg that has a male VGA plug/pins on one end to plug into a female VGA port. On the other end is a male hdmi plug.

Sorry to say that acer does not sell what you want. I checked and the only other compatible device was to turn the Mini-CP (an Acer proprietary port) into a VGA/LAN/USB combo port.
