Is the OS pre-installed on the SSD or the HD? I would hope they would put it on the SSD, but you just never know...

Yes, the OS is installed on the 120GB SSD, but the recovery partitions are divided between the SSD and HDD. So far this is turning out to be a lightning quick, solid machine, but I have been experiencing intermittent boot failures where the primary drive (SSD) is not recognized (no boot device). That's the only real problem that I've experienced with this model.

Question 2

Does the keyboard have a backlight?

No, but the light from the screen even on power save mode is more than sufficient.  There also is no indicator light for the caps lock which took a bit of getting used to but after a short time you don't even notice the lack of it really.

Question 3

The photos show a D-SUB (VGA) port, but the specifications do not list one. Can you verify that there are both a D-SUB port and an HDMI port?

Is it heavy, does it get very hot?

I have not noticed heat issues personally. It is heavy, but not bad for its size. I don't really have any complaints other than the disk drive opening really easily.

I've had the laptop for a bit less than a year if you want to know.

Question 5

Matt or Gloss? Could we get a second opinion? One post said it was in between but I haven't heard of a satin screen, and I really hate the reflections of the gloss.

It is in between, but more matte than glossy. I've seen more 'textured' matte screens out there, and this one isn't like that, but it's also nowhere near some of the really glossy ones you find on the market.

Can I get windows 7 put on this machine?

Yes you can.  I have it on mine.  The drivers were a bit hard to track down as the Acer site only has the win 8 drivers on the support page.

Just google for
Acer Aspire V3-772G Drivers For Windows 7 (64bit)

The LAN driver was a little tough to find, and the USB 3.0 came from the Intel site.

LAN driver you need is Lan_Broadcom_12.4.1.0_W7x86W7x64_A

USB driver is USB3.0_Win7_2.5.0.19

Mine does not. I did not remember if there was an option to select the touch screen feature when I ordered.

Does it come with Win 8.1 standard or Pro?

It comes with the standard edition of Windows 8, sans the 8.1 update. I easily updated it to Windows 8.1 right after I got it, so that shouldn't be an issue.

This particular laptop is Not a touchscreen.
ALSO the Track pad is the worst I've seen...EVER.

Despite this, I rate this laptop 5 outta 5 stars!
