No.  It doesn't even have an indicator on the power button.

This definitely looks and feels like a budget laptop.  I bought the 573G (5th gen. chipset) for my son a few months back, so I knew what I was getting.  I've been really pleased with both computers so far and would buy again.  I think that they offer a great value.  With that noted, I installed a clean copy of Windows on each machine right away, and put an SSD in mine, so I don't know anything about how it works configured from the factory.

Does this have a UK keyboard or a US keyboard. From the picture, it looks like it has a UK keyboard?

I am not sure what a UK keyboard looks like on a laptop. I have a UK wired keyboard and it is different from that near the enter/return key and delete and backspace but it is also different from my old laptop keyboard. I have no problem with it and I have gown accustom to a US keyboards so perhaps it is a US keyboard with a few smaller keys. I like this laptop alot and not just because of the price. The screen is a little flimsy when you open it but I think no matter what people should be careful with technology. I recommend it.

How is the web browsing ability? I recently got an extremely sluggish laptop, but the specs support it. So kind of my fault. How is this computer? Is it fast when it comes to general web browsing, google docs, word, excel, etc?

I bought this laptop for music production and it handles that work with ease, so using even a heavy browser like Firefox or Chrome will not be a problem. Though I did order an extra 8GB stick of RAM to bring the total up to 16GB. That is a very cheap upgrade and absolutely worth it. However, to install the RAM, you have to unscrew the entire bottom panel. Which is around 25-30 little screws. It's more of a pain than it should have been, but you only have to do it once. The chassis also has enough internal space for a DVD/Blu-ray drive, it just doesn't come with one pre-installed. So if that's something you want/need, I would install it and the RAM all at once to avoid taking the bottom panel off twice.

Bottom line: there's not much you could throw at this computer that it couldn't handle aside from some of the really GPU intensive video games.

I'm interested in how people use this ( mine would be for home use, mainly
documents, email, searches, shopping etc. Not games or much music).
What about ease of use, speed, compatibility?

Office use. book keeping on the go.
If you get this laptop, however, get a mouse with it. The whole pad is one giant button and differentiating between right and left click is annoying.

Where is the power button?  If it is on the outside, can I turn it on while laptop closed?  I want to sometimes use with external monitor/keyboard.

The power button is in the top right corner of the keyboard. My first few times starting it up, it took pressing it, then waiting a few seconds for it to start.

Now, it boots up as soon as I press the button, so no issue with that long-term.

Unfortunately, there is no external power button, just the one on the keyboard.

Is the finish of the screen matte or glossy?

We gave this to our son, who's out of town in the military.  He doesn't have the computer right now, but, he thinks it's glossy.   So sorry, but, I will say this!  He loves this laptop!!!  He bought two previously (in a month's time) before he decided on this Acer....it is amazingly fast & the screen is incredible!  He said definately buy it!!!  I hope this helps, wish I could tell you for sure.
