Question 1

I've never had a laptop before, so I'm unsure which HDMI cable I need for it to hook up to my HDMI capable monitor, i.e.... standard, slim, or....?  Suggestions on which cable to buy?  Thanks

I typically try to avoid video and audio problems with anything cable related so I stay away from bargain cables.  On the other hand if you need a cable of any great length it could get expensive fast.  So my answer would be get the best cable in your budget.  Cheap cables are awful, but I can't tell the difference in mid priced cables and really expensive cables.

Question 2

Does this have a VGA port like in the picture? I know there's no optical drive but omitting a port would require a slightly different chassis.

It does. It has everything as advertised. It's. Hold quality isn't too good tho. I suggest you buy a laptop sleeve so the chassis doesn't crack under everyday usage.

Question 3

My friend just bought this laptop. He has a 500GB 2.5in SSD he wants to put in to replace the 128gb SSD. Can this be added or is the 128gb m.2? Also this says no optical drive but is the space empty so I had a drive in that spot.

The 128gb SSD is a m.2 so you won't be able to replace it with a 2.5 inch SSD. Also, I spent some time looking and couldn't find an optical drive that fits internally. I ended up getting a cheep USB optical drive. However, that space left where an optical drive would normally be is enough space to fit a second hard drive, so that 2.5 inch SSD can still be added.

No.  If you need an optical drive, you will need to get an external drive.  I believe that you can install an internal drive (There is panel on the side that can be removed for an internal but I do not know if the motherboard has connections for one and I do not know how to remove the panel without damaging the laptop.), but do not take my word for it.  I would contact Acer to find out.  I would just go with an external optical drive unless you plan on using it a lot.

My response was incorrect. It does NOT come with a CD/DVD drive but you can install one as long as you find one that is compatible.

Does this laptop come with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc) installed?

It comes with a 365 days trial of Microsoft Office 2016.  You can always try LibreOffice, it is a free and open source office suite.  It can take some time to get used to, but it is better than spending an insane amount of money for MS Office.

Kinda a stupid question but how does this computer run on Minecraft?

I haven't tried Minecraft specifically on this machine yet, but it runs Subnautica and Fallout 4 well, and those are much more hardware-intensive games. For comparison, my older desktop (4 GB RAM vs. 8 on this laptop) runs Minecraft fine and the other two games only barely.

Does this run things like CSGO and Overwatch?

Yes, I have been playing World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and League of Legends on high quality graphics and I get around 60fps. I had installed Skyrim Special Edition and it auto set the graphics quality to low, but it still ran.

can you play fallout 4 on this laptop?

Yes. You can run anything at least medium settings. High in a lot of games too.
