Does this machine come with Windoes 8.1 64-bits or only 32-bits operating system?

It comes with a 64 bit OS. Not entirely sure if Windows 8 or 8.1, but definitely 64bit.

Question 2

Is the battery pack removable for this model ? How long the battery lasts for when in normal gaming ?

You can remove the battery but not without taking the laptop apart. As there is no maintenance cover.

As far as using the laptop unplugged, I've only watched an 1:45:00 movie and had half the battery left charged when done.

Question 3

Is the RAM speed 1600 MHz? If not, what speed is it?

The processor can only support 1333 or 1600, so if it isn't 1600, which it most likely is, it has to be 1333.

What about pre-configed s/w?  Can I get MS Office with this machine?

I don't use office. I use open source ware from Sun Microsystems. I am sure you could pay for anything you wanted from MS however. :)

Does the laptop boot from the ssd?  What is the boot time as measured from a complete shutdown until windows is fully loaded?

The laptop boots from the ssd. The boot time on average from a complete shutdown was 13 seconds. The fastest boot time was 7 seconds for me, the longest boot time was 19 seconds.

IS the keyboard backlit?

I was confused by this as well... since the specs specifically list the keyboard as "Non-Backlit". And the ACER website was no help either, as NONE of the 17 inch models show "Backlit" keyboard in the specs, yet all the 15 inch models do. I almost didn't buy because of it, but I noticed similar confusion with older models of the v17 and everyone answered *yes* there is a backlit keyboard like every other Nitro Black series. Well, I received mine today, and I can say with certainty it *does* have a backlit keyboard. :)

will it be possible to connect two external monitors to this unit?

This laptop has only 1 HDMI output port so you can use one HDMI monitor on this port. If your monitor is DVI or VGA you need to buy a HDMI converter.

Another option is to buy USB to VGA or USB to DVI converters so you can connect your two monitors.
