Pros: This laptop is thin, and when I say thin, I mean it. It's just the right size laptop that I would want to carry around and it weighs nothing. It is really fast and when they say it takes 2-3 seconds to turn on and to connect to the internet they lied. Most of the time it's one second to turn on and the-time-it-takes-to-blind to get internet. Really good processor and the whole silver design looks great.
Cons: The battery last for a really long time but I usually have mines in high performance mode since I usually program on it. On average I would say 3.5 hours of typing code and compiling while streaming music and looking up stuff on the internet. I suppose that is to be expected though. Also when I first got the laptop, anytime I hit a key the mouse would stop working for about 2 full seconds, which got annoying when I was typing and then had to click on something. I fixed this by installing the touch pad drivers again so no big deal.
Overall Review: I was laptop shopping at comusa and was about to settle for another pretty big laptop but then I saw this. I thought it was a macbook (lol). I went and tested it out since they had it on display and I loved it. It's so small that it fits in a laptop sleeve designed for 11-12'' laptops! Also when you uninstall all of the blotware, make sure you don't uninstall all of the good acer programs like the launch manager. Just check under the driver/program section under Acer's site to see what each program does.
Pros: Excellent laptop, fast annd reliable. Beautiful looking, thin and powerful. I intalled Ubuntu 11.10 64 bits Linux, everything works right after installation. Windows 7 also works fine. No crash after usinng it for weeks. Not all laptop are the same, but Acer products are so good.
Cons: 2-finger scrolling on touch pad works OK in Windows 7, not in Ubuntu.
Overall Review: I am a Mac User, I own iMac, MBP, iPhone, iPad... but this Acer S3 is the first Windows laptop that I eally like. Compare to other brands that I bought ( like Dxxx, Lxxxxx), they all not so reliable. For Windows machine, I seriously will only buy Acer.
Pros: Nice design. Keyboard seems fine for the size. Light and fits the 'ultrabook' idea. Price is very good. HDMI out is nice to have for something this small.
Cons: Biggest problem I see is all the junk that comes preinstalled with the OS. Companies really shot themselves in the foot when they make a decent laptop perform poorly because of the junk. Windows seems fine, but I am sure it will get slower so I plan to reinstall Windows first thing. Touchpad is not the best I have used and the body construction is not impressive, but it's ok. I have a Macbook Air and, construction-wise, this is not a competitor. I am not saying it's bad, but I'd love to see a non-plastic body. As a portable Windows system it seems like a great price.
Overall Review: I am happy with it for the price. After reading reviews on systems that cost $200-400 more, I don't think they would really be worth the extra. Full-SSD would be nice, but the extra storage is also nice to have. Seems like a decent, portable system.
Pros: Battery Life - with the lowest screen brightness and normal usage with Wifi you can easily squeeze out 4.5 hours. Touch Pad - this is the first windows touch pad that does a good job with two finger scrolling and two finger right click Aesthetics - This ultrabook looks and feels great. It is the perfect size and has a simple yet appealing metalic color scheme. The screen hinge is also solid and smooth. Wake up time - This is where you will notice the speed of the small solid state drive on the machine, it wakes up in under 2 seconds, making it great to carry between classes and meetings, no more walking around with the lid open to keep it from sleeping.
Cons: The solid state is great for sleeping and waking up, but it would have been nice to have the entire operating system on a solid state drive to improve the overall performance. I don't feel that the machine is slow by any means, but it would be much faster if the entire hard drive was solid state.
Overall Review: I have also done fairly extensive testing with the machine in Ubuntu and Fedora, they both work fine, but you have to do some tweaking to get fan speed control and brightness settings to work. Also, I have found that the multi-touch works a lot better on newer kernels (3.2+). Ubuntu 12.04 and Fedora 17 both use the newer kernels and they make the touch pad much easier to work with.
Pros: Very slim, very fast and a bigger screen than anticipated. Time to boot is next to nothing, time from pushing the power button to desktop is probably 20 seconds at most. Keyboard is pretty spacious, alot more than my old laptop. Surround sound is awesome, even with the speakers on the bottom. Also, the power cord and all connections (except the headphones) are on the back. In all, awesome computer, very powerful and very fast.
Cons: A little heavier than anticipated, but not bad at all. Probably average laptop weight.
Overall Review: Great alternative to Macbook Air, especially if you're more familiar with windows than mac.
Pros: Got the ultrbook and really liked it. It runs good and is just what my wife needed. Light and capable. And for the price i think its hard to beat.
Cons: I had some typing mishaps with the keypad(type light ans fast) but my wife who types like she is on a mission with a old typewritter didnt have any trouble.
Overall Review: My biggest complaint comes from the shipping. It wasn't neweggs fault but fedex's. I selected over night shipping on a tuesday afternoon and didnt recieve the package till friday around 6. Fedex was notified the same day i ordered so they are just that slow. I live in arkansas and newegg shipped from memphis, TN so there shouldnt be a problem with distance. (4 hours away) Newegg refunded my 32$ for overnighting it and made it right. But i feel newegg should have to pay for fedex's mistake. If i new fedex was doing the shipping i would have changed it, newegg please stop using fedex they are junk for shipping.
Pros: Very thin, very light. Great deal if you're not willing to make the jump to a full SSD hard drive. The 20GB SSD in this seems to help it boot nice and quick, only takes about 8-10 seconds before your password-prompt pops up. Works well for word processing, surfing, etc. Battery life is great at about 6-8 hours depending on what you're doing. Using power-saver features and you can easily get into the 9-10 hour range.
Cons: WiFi doesn't seem to be particularly strong, but it won't affect your work. Battery life does seem to dwindle when I played music through headphones, but it may have been because I use Zune, which can be a hog. Tons of pre-installed garbage programs. Be prepared to spend an hour removing useless program.s
Overall Review: It's a great laptop for the price. I use it as a student and at work and the low-profile is really a great perk.

Pros: -I'm really surprised there's not many more reviews on this excellent laptop (and series for that matter). -I went from an 18.4", 9lb laptop to THIS..can't even tell it's in my lap. -No lid 'wobble'. Super sturdy. Excellent working hardware for the dollar. Read reviews to get an idea of the kind of hardware as this is a review of the experience. Internet works great, bluetooth fires up quickly. Instant-on is great and comes on like it should.. instantly. I was up and running on internet and installing my favorite apps within 6 mins. of turning on the laptop. It took 2 more than it should because I actually scanned the user's manual for once., 2 extra mins. for fumbling around with the wrong SSID for my wireless LAN, silly me. So net time to up and running on the net was virtually 2 mins, can't beat that! It's so lightweight it's like an over-powered acer iconia a-500 tablet with a keyboard (which I own as well).
Cons: The only two things I have to gripe about and it's not that much of a deal is the fact the keyboard is so small, but I knew that going into it. This is made for small hands and confident typists. The other thing is the touchpad doesn't seem as sensitive as my older laptops' touchpads (2 previous laptops were sony, 2 before that were HP) even with the senstivity cranked up. Again, they're small nuances as opposed to actually "negatives" and I'm sure I'll get used to the keyboard layout as well as the sensitivity levels of the touchpad soon enough.
Overall Review: I think something this lightweight might be a candidate for Android OS! (/me drools). I think the other reviewer(s) might need to try and see what conditions the manufacturer promises long battery life and I find that important when considering buying a product like this, rather than not and having the unrealistic expectation of a 7 hr battery life when writing a paper using a resource hog like Open Office, M$ Office (and most likely being connected to the internet as well). Consider what you're running in the background and make sure you're in power saver mode and you'll definitely get a long battery life. Don't just shoot from the hip.
