Can this monitor connect and work with a MacBook pro? I am clueless and my daughter loves to watch movies on her MacBook and I want to give her a monitor to watch/listen on

I use mine on a Dell desktop and it work great.The Question for you is the cable connection going to work we bought an adapter it works good that might be the same with all monitors you look at since it has its own power cord i think there universal in the way they work with any computer.Hope that helps.

I'm having problems getting any sound out of the speakers. My audio out definitely puts out sound to a pair of powered speakers and/or headphones. I have set the volume on the monitor to 100. What am I missing?

Make sure the monitor sound volume is turned up to 100%.
Use the same audio cable you used to test the powered speakers.

If you still get no sound, then the monitor needs to be returned.

Yes, I've used a Chromecast on this monitor without issue. It is mentioned in the documentation, just not on Newegg.

Previous comment: plugged the monitor into another hdmi source and it's not the problem.  In the Windows control panel->Sound, the HDMI output is grayed out and while it shows enabled, can't be made the default.  Mobo or Windows driver issue? MSI has updated audio drivers.

On my system, I have a "G246HYL-C" audio device, which is the monitor's speaker output.  It's both enabled, and it made itself the default when I hooked up the monitor.  I don't recall having to install any drivers, either, so I'd assume Windows ought to have sufficient drivers built in.

Question 9

Monitor video is terrific for the price.  Audio only works with VGA and the audio cable and then not very well.  Is there anything I need to do to configure audio via HDMI (Win7, MSI Z97 mobo)?  I hate to return the monitor just for the audio since it does the rest of the job so well.

I think you need to install the HDMI audio driver that came with your motherboard.  If that doesn't help then I'm not sure.
But this monitor doesn't have very good sound.  my clock radio sounds better.  Im disappointed in the audio quality.
