Question 1

Can anyone clarify what version of HDMI this monitor has?  I would hope for 1.4 so that an HDMI cable can give you the full 2560 x 1440 resolution.

When I used this monitor with my laptop that has HDMI out, I was only able to achieve 1920x1080. That may, however, be due to the laptop's own limitations.

The manual that comes with the monitor doesn't specify which version of HDMI is used. It only says "19 pin". I would imagine it is 1.4 though, since it's Acer's latest model.

Using DVI, the screen runs the full 2560x1440, and looks great.

Question 2

HI there - I just bought this to use with a late 2010 MacBook Pro - tried an HDMI cable but can't get more than 1920x1080. Tried using SwitchResX but no dice. Any advice to get the full 2560x1440 resolution? I just ordered a MiniDisplay Port to Display Port cable to try. I could also get a DVI adapter, but it is a single link DVI port on this monitor, not double, so not sure if that will work either. I have a Dual Link DVI cable in use on a 30" monitor with my MacBook and it works flawlessly, but it won't fit in the single DVI slot. Thanks in advance for the help - would hate to return this monitor!  Best, Peter

I have a mini-DP to DP cable hooked up to it.  it will display the full resolution, but for some reason it looks a little weird, like it's being scaled.  I then tried the Apple Dual-Link DVI adapter and that looks perfect.  If you can find the Dual-Link DVI adapter, that'll get you the best picture.

Oddly, the mini-DP to DP adapter works just fine when I'm running Windows on the same monitor.

Question 3

Does this monitor have an audio-out port anywhere of any kind?  I cannot tell from the pictures or description.  If the speakers are as bad as the reviews say, I would be interested in routing the audio out to external speakers...

If you are looking for the 3/8" audio output, it doesn't have it. You may still be able to output audio via DP if you daisy chain to another monitor that supports that feature.
If you are looking for something special in the audio, you won't get it with the built-in speakers.

Question 4

Can I gain 2560x1440 via HDMI or displayport?

You can get 2560x1440 Res if you use HDMI ver. 4.0 cable I believe. I can't recall the version. Word of advice, just get yourself a Dual-DVI adapter. Using HDMI or DP, the image quality is very cartoonish, as if the black colors overlap (this is at 2560x1440 res), specially in OS X environments. I didn't really noticed much difference in Windows. Dual-DVI Totally worth it.

Can this monitor be mounted on a quad rack?

It has a standard VESA mount in back, so I believe the actual mounting wouldn't be an issue. However, do measure the distance between each quadrant of the rack to make sure there's enough space for these to sit side-by-side ... my dual-monitor rack was just *barely* wide enough to hold them.

How do I get the build-in speakers of the monitor to work?

For me the built in speakers worked whenever I didn't have any other audio source plugged in to my tower. Basically the were the default, running the information through the HDMI cable.

Can you be more specific?

I've played some games on using this monitor (Arkham City, Arkham Origins, Watch Dogs, Tomb Raider-2013, etc) Just make sure your Video Card can handle the 2560x1440 res at high frames. Only games designed for higher than 1080p resolution will take advantage of these specs, other than that I just see the bigger characters. It won't add more landscape of the game if that's what you are looking for.

Is anyone having trouble getting the display port to work with this monitor? DVI works fine but no signal with display port.

I guess you do not have DisplayPort 1.2 cable - so you have to go to settings on your monitor and switch DisplayPort from 1.2 to 1.1 - then it will be working just fine (had the same problem and had to do some experimenting) Or you buy DisplayPort 1.2 cable.

Question 9

I read a review here of someone stating that this is an IPS display, but the description lists it as AHVA. These are different. I am assuming it *is* AHVA and the reviewer is mistaken?

The answer is yes and no.  IPS or In-plane switching is a technology that was developed by LG.  They own the patent on that term.  So technically, any brand of monitor other than LG is not an IPS monitor.  However the technology is used by all the other manufacturers.  Because LG owns the patent, other manufacturers came up with their own name/variant.  Samsung has PLS or 'plane-to-line switching while AU Optronics (the company that does Acer's panels) came up with AHVA) they cannot specifically call the panel type IPS But the technology is the same, hence the "display with IPS technology" shown on the box.

Question 10

I am using laptop equipped with Intel GMA 4500MHD card. (Specifically, Fujitsu A1220) Does anyone know if my laptop can support 2560x1440?

On my desktop system, I needed DisplayPort support to be able to run this display at full resolution - HDMI was limited to 1080 vertical resolution (probably was 1920x1080).  If you don't have a DisplayPort connector on your laptop, I doubt this will work at full resolution.  I bought a better video card to run this display.  This is a great display, if you have the right support.
