G-sync or Freesync compatible?

when i go to switch my refresh rate to 144 hz it says wrong cable and the screen gets all fuzzy, im using the right cable a dual link dvi, anyone know what the problem is?

Look up a picture of a dual link dvi cable because my monitor did not come with one. Otherwise just google how to change a monitors refresh rate
