I'm an independent computer repair business and I need a newer cloning software solution for repairing/cloning customer's hard drives and I need it to run on my windows 7 64-bit Ultimate machine -64g RAM. I DO NOT NEED FANCY COLORS or software to cosmically connect to my dead mother. I need REAL software that I can start, go do something else, and come back later and IT'S DONE!. In other words - something that works! I'm NOT looking for a free hand-out. I need something that works! I'm familiar with Acronis and have had good luck with older Acronis software. Open to ANY Advice. Suggestions welcome.  John?

I have used this software to clone from one drive to another even if they are different size or SSD to standard. The experience with my computer is very fast performance. It has a tool that enables you to set up raid etc. I have barely broke the crust on this software but I am very happy with it in the past two years I have owned it.

Question 3

How is the one PC license enforced? Will I have a problem if I clone a Win7 drive then allow it to upgrade to Win10?

no problem at all you are making a complete perfect picture of another hard drive will be no difference between the hard drive and the previous  hard drive licenses only have problems when you change hardware of the computer it is in depending on the hardware may ask you to validate the hardware changes

Still unknown at this stage I would think Acronis would update Disk Director at some point. But to answer your question no where at there web site does it state it will work. I am running Windows 10 beta and it seems to work, although I have not tried to restore my system with it. Hope this helps

Can I use this to clone win 3.1 and lotus 123 that is a program running in dos and put it on a bigger harddrive ?

Wow... Windows 3.1???  that takes me back!

Take this with a grain of salt, as I have not tried cloning a disk with an OS (and potentially hardware) that is that old...

However, in theory it should work.  hook the new disc up to the computer (probably have to do it internally as you may not have USB??), boot from the CDROM, make the clone, swap drive...

If you're really working with a system that old, there are certainly things you want to keep in mind... I don't know what it is, but I think windows 3.1 has a disc size limitation (might be 2GB might be smaller?? I'm really reaching for that old info - hopefully you can find it the web).  If the machine is as old as the OS... make sure you find a new hard drive that is compatible with your old hardware (i.e. it may be hard to find IDE hard drives these days).

Can I use this software to back up my entire operating system to a external hard drive? Or do I need another software from Agronis?

Hi there, This software is good for the price and can do a lot of things. I know that you can use it to mirror a hard drive to use as a back-up. The problem I had was that the back up drive wouldn't work to boot up the PC, it was only a back-up. The data was all there when needed if a file got accidently deleted or corrupted. If you really want a bootable backup, buy a raid card and mirror the drive with the operating system onto an equal size or larger size hard drive using the bios from the raid card.

Is this compatible with Windows Servers, Web Servers, SQL Server ?  Or is this designed to be just a PC application?

I cannot answer your question directly but, read on as this might help. I have used Acronis Disk Director since version 9 and I have never actually installed it.  I boot directly from the CD and then I create and copy partitions so the OS on the system I'm working is not relevant. I have used it on Linux and Windows systems without any problems.  DD12 has support for UEFI bios. The only issues I have come across booting directly from the CD is that somtimes DD doesn't have the right driver for the mouse or external hard drive enclosure, so I swap the mouse or connect the drive directly to a native SATA port and this usually solves the problem.

I would depend on what mode your using,

ZFS supports equivalents of RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5 (RAID-Z), RAID 6 (RAID-Z2) and a triple-parity version RAID-Z3. As it always stripes over top-level vdevs, it supports equivalents of the 1+0, 5+0, and 6+0 nested RAID levels.

GPFS, IBM declustered RAID protection schemes up to n+3. A particularity is the dynamic rebuilding priority which runs with low impact in the background until a data chunk hits n+0 redundancy, in which case this chunk is quickly rebuilt to at least n+1. On top, GPFS supports metro-distance RAID 1.

Btrfs RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 10.

Mirror, Stripe

if your system is set to stripe, independent  volumes this program may work.

but if dependent, you may be able to retrieve data from the drive in question.
