I want to clone my 500 GB SSD to a M.2 for my desktop, and use the SSD just freed up in my wife's laptop. Do I have to buy 2 copys?

What you do is install the M.2 drive in the desktop that has the 500GB drive and the ACRONIS software already on it. Then use ACRONIS software to CLONE the 500GB SSD to the NVme drive. Once that's done, you can format the 500GB drive and then use it as storage. You don't have to format the 500GB drive. You can just use it as a storage device after the cloning process is completed. You could also use the 500GB as a backup drive as well as a storage drive. The choice is yours.

Is this perceptual license or just one year of subscription?

perceptual license. I think the one year on the other offers refers to cloud backup, you still get the software.
