Nothing succeeds like success and Guitar Hero 2 builds upon the strong foundation laid down by the original. The same addictive play returns but with 64 more tracks to challenge you. This time around, many of the tracks are based on master recordings from the original artists including "Possum Kingdom" by the Toadies, and Jane's Addiction's "Stop." Tracks range from Kansas' timeless classic "Carry On Wayward Son" to "Hangar 18" by the Megadeth and the Stray Cat's "Rock This Town."
Familiarize yourself with the playlist in the practice mode or chart your path to the top of rock in the career mode. Play with a friend in three modes of play where each player can play at their own difficulty level. Triple your score with three-button chords – if you can. Attempt hammer-on and pull-off fingering as you try to master the 50 in-game achievements.
Successfully complete songs by hitting the right fret buttons when the color scrolls on-screen to earn in-game cash. This can be used to unlock new guitars, finishes, bonus songs, videos and characters including "The Grim Reaper." Multiple levels of difficulty are available so you can ease your way onto the highway to stardom. The guitar controller is what makes Guitar Hero more than a mere button masher. Modeled after the venerable classic Gibson SG, the controller features five large fret buttons on the neck. The strum bar is solid and works in both directions and the chrome-plated whammy bar is ready for whatever you throw at it. The Start and Select buttons have been crafted to resemble the volume and gain knobs on the original.
RedOctane's follow-up to the critically acclaimed rhythm game. Guitar Hero II features a brand-new and expanded track list, more venues and new play modes, and aims to rock longer and harder than its predecessor. RedOctane has once again teamed up with veteran music game developer Harmonix for the sequel, and is using famed recording studio WaveGroup for its music production, who also recorded the covers for the licensed tracks in the original Guitar Hero. The game's all-important track list encompasses all forms of rock and metal music including classic rock, "hair metal", heavy metal, modern rock and alternative rock. In total, Guitar Hero II features more than 55 songs. New modes include a multiplayer co-op mode where players can play not only the lead guitar track, but rhythm or bass as well, allowing players to take on two different sections of the song simultaneously. Supports the Guitar Hero SG controller.
