Any external drive (this one included) can be a bit more complicated than normal to install an operating system on (like Windows, Linux, etc). You can install programs to this location, but it will likely not be the default location during installation screens. You will need to pay attention to make sure you select the drive (or change the default location in Windows). This will be true of 99% of external drives.

As long as you have at least a USB 3.0 port to connect to, it will work fine.  I use it for Steam games myself and am very pleased with the performance
