in a way yes. you can lower the level until they are off and change the color but at every start they are red and full brightness.

Would this be compatible with Asus and Windows 8.1 desktop?

I don't see why it wouldn't be compatible. I used it with a couple of different PC's and different operating systems and it worked great. Changing colours and intensity seem to be independent of what unit is used. It always starts amber and bright. I wish it would load the last setting used but that is not the case.

Is keyboard corded or wireless?

The keyboard I received is corded but had been a great keyboard since I purchased it!

Question 5

How are the letters on the keys holding up?  The last 3 keyboards i have had, the letters wore off in less than a year and after two years many of them were gone completely.  Also i have big hands, does it feel cramped to type on?   I hope it does not click all the time when keys pressed.

Letters are fine. I have small hands and not a good typer, so hard for me to say about cramped. I think there is a small clicking. What I don't like is, the back space key is small (regular key size), and it has a home key to the right, so I usually end up hitting home, which takes you to the beginning of the sentence.

Anyone do any gaming on this keyboard? What's the typing experience on USB 2.0? USB 3.0?

The typing is good - I don't do gaming so I don't know about that aspect. I like the lighted keyboard and gave one to a friend as well.

does the caplock light up when caps are locked?

The button itself does not, but there is an indicator in the top next to the "Internet" key that lights up.
