how many slots does it take??

Depends on the size of your case. I have it right unDer neath my video card. It's a little bulky, but works wonderfully. I didn't have to mod anything, just be sure you have some clearance working around your other cards or the bottom of your case. Just one slot, but like I said, keep some clearance.

Question 2

Would this work on a half-height case?

Hi  Jason,
This fan only fits into a standard size card slot. I don't know of any fan that fits into a half size slot. If you happen to have an open 5.25" drive bay, they make a few fans that fit there. I use one that has 3 40mm fans, and my hard drive fits right into it to stay cool. They also make one that will fit into a 3.5" hdd slot. Gskill makes a dual fan that clips onto the ends of the ram slots, this will at least help to push the air around and cool it slightly.

Question 3

We cant plug this into mobo 3-pin fan headers? Also, should I put it under a MSI 980 ti? It already has fans pointing DOWN.

I would not advise putting it below such card. It was designed for much older videocards and most likely help the 980ti. If your cards overheating you should look if it has dust if not contact MSI most likely they will tell you to check the cards Thermal paste. The 980Ti typically is self sufficient as long as rest of case is properly cooled.

Question 4

I have an AOC slot fan that had a thermistor on it to control fan speed.  Do they still offer one that is thermostatically controlled?

This model does not have a control for fan speed. At least none that I could find. I hope this helps.

How loud is this fan?

Actually it's not bad at all. It always depends on your case of course, but I don't even notice it anymore. This fan has been running non stop in my case for almost 2 years now and I couldn't be happier. Blows out a ton of warm air.

I don't ever remember think "man, that's loud".

Question 6

Is this 12 V? How many Amps does it use at max speed?

It is definitely 12v.   I am not sure how many amps it uses at max speed as it is not variable, but it says 0.15A on the back along with 1.80W.  So far it does a great job and is not loud (3-4 months of avg. use).
