Alphacool Alphacool Leak Tester

The Alphacool Leak Testing Tool (article no. 17482) is an air pressure leak tester for a water cooling loop: a hand pump, a pressure indicator and a hose with a G1/4 thread. It connects to any free G1/4 port and reads up to 1 bar, so you can ensure there are no leaks before filling the system.

Why test with air

Once you have completed building your cooling loop, the last step is usually the filling. Leaks are not uncommon at this stage, and Alphacool notes that every now and then some liquid leaks out somewhere. Often it is because a HardTube or hose is not seated correctly, or a fitting has not been screwed in completely. The tool lets you test the tightness of the water circuit first.

Structure

The tester consists of a hand pump, a pressure indicator and an 11/8mm hose. A TEE piece joins the whole thing, so all three parts are connected to each other via one fitting. The hose is 40 cm long, with a G1/4 threaded connection at the end and an anti-kink spring.

Application

You connect the hose to a free G1/4 port and operate the hand pump until the desired pressure is reached. Please note here that there may be different maximum specifications depending on the hardware manufacturer. Now you should wait about 15 to 20 minutes. If the pressure has not dropped after this time, the loop is sealed: airtight and therefore watertight.

The manual says to read the safety instructions before starting the installation, and gives its own numbers for the test. Pump with the air pump until you reach 0.5 bar, wait 15 minutes and check the pressure indicator. If the pressure decreases by 0.1 bar or more, the circuit is leaking. Check all components again to avoid a later leakage of your coolant.
