Two loops through one radiator
According to Alphacool, its Dual-Flow radiators were developed specifically for use in servers. Alphacool calls the ability to run two separate loops through one radiator unique. There are also advantages to using them in a single loop: you can split the cooling surface and use it directly behind hotspots.
What does dual flow mean?
In a classic radiator the water flow is in a U-shape. Water is introduced on one side and runs once through half of the radiator before turning around and running back through the other half, so the outlet is on the same side as the inlet. In an X-Flow radiator the water flows once from left to right completely through the radiator, and the inlet and outlet are on opposite sides. With the Dual-Flow Radiator the water flows from one side to the other just like the X-Flow. However, this radiator is divided in the middle. You could also say it is nothing more than two small X-Flow Radiators in one.
What are the advantages?
In most server racks, space is extremely limited and being able to do fancy loops is not usually an option. Due to this you can utilize the radiator to simplify the loop and reduce the amount of tubing needed. Alphacool reports that in some test scenarios it has even seen an increase in performance from the loop due to this method too.
What the loop needs
Each input and output in use takes one of our fittings, and the 8 screw plugs in the box close the other connections. The radiator takes three 120 mm fans on one side or six with both sides fitted. The box has 12 screws each in M3x8, M3x30 and M3x45 and an Allen key.
We also have the next thickness down in this design, the NexXxoS XT45 Full Copper Dual-Flow 360mm Radiator.
