The Alphacool Core Backplate XPX/Eisbaer LGA 115X/1200/1700 Metal is a stainless steel CPU cooler backplate that Alphacool lists as compatible with Intel's LGA 115X, 1200, 1700 and 1851 sockets. It goes behind Alphacool's XPX water blocks and Eisbaer AIOs.

Compatibility

Alphacool names these coolers for the metal backplate: XPX, XPX Aurora, XPX Aurora Edge, XPX 1U, XPX Pro 1U, XPX Pro Aurora, Eisbaer, Eisbaer Aurora, Eisbaer Pro and Eisbaer LT. That list includes both solo water coolers and CPU AIOs.

Material and contact pressure

The plate is made of stainless steel and covered with an insulating polymer layer on the back. Alphacool says this material composition ensures that the CPU cooler is additionally stabilized and can be mounted on the socket with improved contact pressure. All in all, according to Alphacool, this leads to a considerable improvement in cooling performance compared to the previously used plastic backplates. It adds that the effect is most clearly measurable with Intel's socket LGA 1700. The technical data puts the plate at 3 mm thick.

Mounting

There is an additional adhesive surface on the back that serves as an installation aid and thus makes mounting much easier. The manual shows a double sided adhesive pad: peel the protective film from its lower side, stick it onto the center of the backplate, then peel the second film. Stick the backplate onto the back of the CPU bracket. Its screws must be visible through the holes of the backplate, or the cooler will not mount correctly.

Before you start, compare your board with the pictures in the manual, which show socket LGA 1700 and sockets LGA 115x and LGA 1200. Alphacool warns that mainboard manufacturers slightly change the design through revisions, so the backplate may no longer fit on later models. Make sure that high components are exposed and that the backplate does not damage the mainboard. A CPU or the socket's cover plate must be mounted in the socket while you work.
