will this support splitting a signal to a monitor at 144hz and a streaming pc (using and hdmi adaptor for output 2)?

I'm not sure what you mean by 144hz, but this is my setup: mac mini's hdmi output with apple's hdmi to dvi adaptor and dvi to dvi cable serve as input for the aluratek, 1 output is by dvi to dvi cable to a full hd monitor, 2 output is by dvi to hdmi cable to full hd tv, works really well, no difference in picture quality between  the monitor and the tv, no delay either when both are on at the same time. I didn't try games, but full hd movie playback or anything normally done on a computer looks perfect.

Question 2

What cable distance will the output support?

Hi Mark, I have a 6' dvi-to-dvi cable and 10' dvi-to-hdmi cable hooked up with no problems at all (at first I had the dvi-to-hdmi cable at 15' long and it was also with no problems, but there was a ever so slight delay between the 2 pictures if viewed at the same time - no big deal in it self but I had a chance to return the 15 footer for free so I did. With the 10 footer I see no delay). Also had a chance to compare it to the very similar looking TrippLite dvi splitter and chose this one - the TrippLite took twice as long to display pictures after waking up computer from sleep. Question 3

I want to use this to split a signal between a monitor that I use all the time and a projector that I only connect intermittently.  Using a passive splitter, when I disconnect the projector, the monitor loses its signal.  With this unit, will I experience the same problem or will my monitor continue to operate when I disconnect the projector?

I have it set up to duplicate what is displayed on a monitor to an hdtv, and it works fine this way.  You shouldn't have a problem with the monitor when the projector is off/disconnected with this active unit.  The hdtv and monitor both have the same resolution, not sure what happens when the devices have different ones.

Question 4

I have three monitors and a video card that can only handle 2 monitors.  Will this product allow me to connect 2 monitors with separate screen without being a copy?

Yes,

This is an active DVI splitter.  In the application in reference the customer could use one of these modules and have two(2) different display outputs displayed on two different monitors with the third monitor being a copy of one of the other two.  In summary this module takes one input and makes it two identical outputs.
