I would say yes, , ddr3 1600 (pc3 12800). you can buy it as a set of 2 or 4( 16 G or 32 G) the higher the # 1866/1600/1333 the faster, also look @ latency ( lower better) 9-9-9 faster than 10-10-10. faster & better cost more $.
google info about your mobo & ddr3 ram. BUY WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD FOR THE MOST MEMORY!

Yes, but with a lot of caveats (copied from manufacturer's page):

" - Dual Channel DDR3/DDR2 Memory Technology*

- Max. capacity of system memory: 16GB*** "

" ...*DDR3 and DDR2 are supported separately.

**DDR3 memory is only supported by installing AM3/AM3+ CPU.

***Due to the operating system limitation, the actual memory size may be less than 4GB for the reservation for system usage under Windows® 32-bit OS. For Windows® 64-bit OS with 64-bit CPU, there is no such limitation.

****DDR2 memory is only supported by installing AM2/AM2+/AM3 CPU.

TL;DR: Yes, but only if you're using an AM3 or AM3+ processor. If you're running Windows OS, you'll want the 64bit version so you can use all 16 GIG.

Is this memory ok for CPU AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE and MB Gigabyte 790+SB750 AM3?

Possibly but incredibly unlikely, if you want the full 16 GB the motherboard is capable of, get a 4x4GB kit.

i have installed a single 8GB stick of the same brand memory on an ASRock AM1H-ITX MB, and it ran perfectly; im wondering if im going to have problems using this kit, as it is dual channel?  am i better off ordering two 8GB sticks (unmatched) separately?

naw you'll be fine normally. I've used paired and unpaired on my board, even though its dual channel, it works fine.  Its the not the optimal setup but its not a crappy one either. You tend to get some slow downs if you overclock, you just have to adjust your settings.  Dont know if that helps.
