It depends on how your motherboard is set up... It has a connector for motherboards that have variable fan speed control as well as the standard 12V connector for those that don't.

On my particular system, the fan will run continually.

Can I plug this unit in (120v) by itself and get 12v dc from it to use for something else? If so, which leads.  Thanks

You cannot simply plug these in and have them work as a 12 VDC power supply.  Some pins in the 24 pin motherboard connector must be shorted together in order to turn the PSU on.  I believe that pin 16 is the Power Supply On pin and needs to be shorted to either ground or 5 VDC.  This should be identified in the owners manual which should be available in PDF format on the manufacturer's website. 12 VDC should be available on pin 1 of the Peripheral 4-pin connector (yellow wire) and ground is on pin 2 (black wire).

I don't know what a Universal Power supply is?  You need to determine what you need your power supply to do. For instance how many SATA connections you need, if you need PCI-Express, etc., 20 pin or 24 pin for the power supply connection.  Older computers should be fine but the modern cpu and motherboard combos may not work well with this power supply. Antec is still my first choice of Power supplies, period.

Will this work in a Dell 5050 or E510?

Not enough information... look  at your motherboard. does it use a 20pin ATX power connection plus the 12v 4pin cpu power connection? or use a 24pin ATX power connection plus the 4pin 12V cpu power connection??? plus it only has one 6pin video card power connection, so you cannot use ANY video cards that employ 2 6pin connections. (plus, is you are using video that requires more than one 6pin power unit, 350W is not enough to power your gaming machine anyways)

look at your computer, and make a list of power connection needs you have... then look at the list of power ports this provides...

Due to Acer's use of a small chassis, this power supply will NOT fit your Acer Aspire.

You can either upgrade the chassis/case with a brand-new case, or you can replace the power supply with an Acer-specific power supply, which is available on here and typically costs between $40 and $60.

The Antec Basiq power supply fits most full and mini ATX cases, which are primarily used by Lenovo (in the full towers in the ThinkCentre, ThinkStation and ThinkServer lines), Sony, Asus, CyberPower and iBuyPower as well as many custom-built desktop PCs. Some Dell OptiPlex models, older Dell XPS systems and most Alienware Hive Mind and Area 51 models also use this type of power supply and case design.

HP, Compaq, Acer, eMachines and Gateway use smaller, proprietary power supplies which are built specifically for their chassis and case designs. You can either replace the power supply with a model specifically made for your Acer desktop PC or you can replace the case with a larger, more spacious one (such as the Antec LanBoy).Hope this helps!

The power supply will do its best to supply 12 Volts to all devices connected to a 12 Volt connectors; if it's severely overloaded, or a poor quality PSU, you might see as low as 11 Volts or as high as 13 Volts. In general, to supply your devices, you want 12 Volts, or as close as possible, and enough current at that voltage to drive the device. So, simply, it's 12 Volts across all devices, but that requires a quality Power Supply Unit to accomplish.

Note that many devices in your computer will use different voltages; that's partly why you connect so many individual wires! USB runs at 5 Volts, many of the little chips on your motherboard run at 3.3; SATA Hard Drives might use 12, 5, AND 3.3 volt connections, which are all present in the SATA power connector.

Your graphics card is the biggest user of 12 Volt power.

The original Dell power supply seems to have 4 SATA connectors. The Antec Basiq BP350 has only 1 SATA connector. So don't get it.

I am trying to find a replacement for the DPS-350VB-1A
It is the model number on my factory dell power supply that recently went out. I found this for over $50 cheaper and if it fits it would be perfect. Any tips?!

The wattage seems to be enough to replace what you HAD. This PSU is great for the price, cant go wrong. What you do need to do, is check all hardware power requirements, especially the motherboard, and make sure the connectors are adequate for ALL of your hardware. Such as the motherboard using a 20 or 24 pin connector SEPARATE from the 4 pin 12V CPU connector. Graphics card needing 1 x 6pin power connector and NOT 2!!! Things like that.

I didn't actually measure it, but the specifications say 3.5" x 5.8" x 5.5", and it fit into my case with no issues.
