Pros: * Very light
* 100% USB powered and Driven
* Comes with a sleeve
* Response time is perfect for development work
* Built in stand + VESA Mounts
Cons: * The saturation on the monitor is a little pale in comparison to my MACBook Pro
* No secondary input options
* The heavy duty USB cable is on the short side, but acceptable
Overall Review: I bought this monitor for the sole purpose of being a second monitor on the go. My home office has 5,080X1920 worth of combined resolution across 3 monitors, so working on just the laptop sometimes just messed with my workflow.
I bought this monitor completely expecting it to not work, but I think it's definitely a keeper. If you compare this monitor with a $1k dedicated desktop monitor you are going to be disappointed, but if you treat this for what it is, it's awesome. It fits into my laptop bag in a separate compartment from my laptop just fine, adds a little bulk but not much weight.
Some people have complained about the stand, but I think it's just fine. It can be put into a number angles as the stand on the back is basically like a picture frame stand. Portrait mode angles are a little more aggressive, but have been just fine.
I haven't done a whole lot with my second screen except development. I usually run my terminal window or debugger on the second monitor allowing me to not have to switch desktops or windows so often.
For context, I'm a software engineer (Java, Scala, Node and all things frontend) and team leader (16 years experience).
Cons: Needed a Driver to work. Contacted AOC and they helped me get the Driver. Once I had it installed the monitor worked great! Nothing in the box indicated the Driver was missing. The monitor just would not illuminate. Now that I have the Driver, the monitor works great every time!
Awesome second monitor for your laptop.8/25/2016 5:54:28 AM
Pros: -Plugs in, installed drivers automatically, ready to go in 5 minutes.
-Comes with a neoprene case.
-Great idea for increasing your productivity on your laptop when you're on the road.
Cons: -Don't expect to reasonably game or watch videos on this thing.
Overall Review: Great product, reasonable price. It's a 16" monitor. It doesn't replace a desktop monitor (They're better for media and gaming) but if you do a lot of work, programming, email, surfing on your laptop and NEED that second screen, this is the answer.
If your laptop bag fits a 15.6" laptop, this should fit right in as well (Granted you don't have a super-thick laptop like an extreme gaming laptop or such).
Comes with the USB 3.0 cable, a carrying case, drivers on a cd (Didn't need them, plugged in, installed automatically).
At 99.00, I would buy a second or third if I needed to.
Two Thumbs up + 5 eggs!
AOC e1659Fwu Black 16" 8ms USB3.0 Powered WLED Backlit Widescreen Ultra Slim LCD Monitor, 200 cd/m2 500:1 w/carry Case, VESA Mountable7/12/2016 9:09:39 AM
Pros: I have bought in the neighborhood of 100 of these. Starting with the older version the 1649. These have come a LONG way from where they used to be.
Super light
Comes with a case
Typically very easy to install, definitely plug and play.
Fits in most 15.6 bags
All of my users are road warriors. These get bumped and banged around a lot. I do replace them from time to time, because of abuse or loose connection.
@ $100...you can't beat it. I have tried others, this one is far superior than the others I have tried.
Cons: USB 3.0 connection on the monitor side could use some beefing up. I don't like the USB 3.0 connector on that side anyways, smaller is not always better.
I do replace them because of this issue.
Sometimes I have to update the USB drivers on a laptop to get it to work and sometimes I have to go out to displaylink's website to get the newest drivers. But that doesn't happen to often.
Overall Review: If you are looking for more screen real estate for mobile situations, this is your product. If you are looking just to add a second monitor for your desktop, this is your product (you might need to buy a longer cable though).
If you are looking for a monitor to game on, forget about it.
All in all, I will continue to buy them until they are discontinued. I can't find a better product.
Pros: I am forced to provide "pro" to submit review.
If it had a quality usb connection, then it would perform as advertised
Cons: rear cable connects under kickstand.
This is awkward to plugin, unplug.
After three uses the connection is failing and screen flickering.
hoping I can return the faulty product to new egg, - Have premier account - first claim with New egg after 5 + years
Pros: Convenient, good resolution, has been flawless since installation
Cons: I wish it was a little bigger
Overall Review: I answered a question incorrectly earlier today about the carry case.
YES, it did come with a travel carry case (which I never used).
Sorry, I was thinking of a different item I had purchased.
Pros: The concept is great, and it works great on my laptop. No extra plugs makes it more portable. The included carrying case makes bringing it places safer.
Cons: But the HTPC I originally bought it for that uses an APU isn't compatible with it. For some reason they just don't want to talk. Also, getting it to display properly can be a bit tricky.
Overall Review: Strongly considering returning this. Not sure if I will yet or not, but considering it.
