How long is the power cord?

It's as long as my... it's long.

One picture shows ethernet connection protection and another is for a phone line. Which is it?

I believe the Ethernet connection is just for surge protection for the Ethernet line, not management. Management would be solely via USB.

I see that this APC Model BN700MC is a "New model replaces APC BE550G". What design improvements have been implemented with respect to Battery Management (conditioning/charging/monitoring, etc)? It's been my experience that these UPS units typically fry the batteries, resulting in shortened battery life (regardless of outage use) with frequent and high replacement cost.

No idea. Ive only had one crap out on me. The other two UPS units are going strong.
