The '1RM' designation refers to mounting in 1 rack space, but I DON't SEE any rack mount ears on the unit.  Are the supplied with the uniy?

It does come with rack ears.  You can mount them near the middle of the UPS if you're using a two post relay rack.

can this be placed under a Directv DVR?

Yes, as long as you do not exceed the maximum wattage then anything can be plugged in to it including a DirectTV DVR (which no doubt uses less wattage than the max capacity of this unit).

Are these units brand new, just not used? Do they come with APC batteries already in them?

Yes, the APC battery is inside but you have to open the cover pull out the wire and plug it

Can the alarm be turned OFF while on battery power?

Yes, in the main settings, you can choose to disable to alarm.
