some of these last a long time some of them don't, quality control I guess, but mine has had no problems, even with a little overclocking, its 6 months old, not a bad buy

The EVGA GeForce GTX770 #04G-P4-3776-KR   has a minimum recommended power supply with +12 volt current rating of 42 amps, the max output with the ICEBERG POWER 680W supply +12 volt current rating is 26 amps.
So no it won't.

pictures say it has 4SATA, specs say 6SATA connections. which is it? i need the latter. thanks in advance

Will this 'sized' power supply fit in the Apevia X-Cruiser 3?  I'm trying to find a 1000+ Watt PSU but don't want to make a mistake.  I have only received relatively vague answers, I need specifics if possible.

Yes,  It Will!

But, sorry, not much specs' available on the net and couldn't find anything searching your tower and this psu for comparison!

However... You should have no problems using this Apevia Iceberg 680W PSU, in any case, but especially in a Apevia tower since Apevia made these PSUs specifically to be used in their branded window Mid-Towers like the X-series of chassis... I was using both the 500Watt Iceberg PSU - Green and an Apevia 680W Iceberg - Blue, before this black version, in my older @ Apevia X-Plorer Mid-Tower... Fit perfectly in the Xplorer; so should fit even better in your Apevia X-Cruiser 3, as it's little bigger and wider than the Xplorer...

Outside Micro PCs (Small Form Factors), that utilize Micro PSUs under 350Watts... All at Mid-Towers and Full-Towers, have a universal standard in their bracket frames with screw placement for mounting any and all PSUs of 400Watts or greater, regardless of internal watt output... The only real physical structural difference between the higher vs. lower wattage PSUs, is that the lower watt PSUs are shorter {front to back} in size while the larger watt PSUs are longer... They are virtually equal in width {side-to-side} size, since they have to meet the standards for mounting and form factor classification...

A 1000W PSU, would physically be longer than say this 680W, and thus would take up more space in your tower and thus reducing airflow, raising case temperatures against onto your component hardware, restricting cable management etc-etc-etc... This 680W, would be shorter but provide ample space in your tower... 680Watt too 800Watt, is perfect wattage range for a Sli or Crossfire or Single Video build for virtually everybody needs... 1000Watt is overkill and unneeded except for Corporate Business, Government and Military running mega network data processing satellite servers etc.

Sorry, I, couldn't provide exact specs for you, but may have to just buy it on a chance and return it if it doesn't!

Is it possible to set a default color rather than having the unit always power on in the blue color mode?

I haven't ever tried to do that with mine. I keep it on the blue setting because that matches the other lights in my pc better. I do know that if your pc is in standby mode it will stay on the same color you had it on.  Unfortunately I'm not home to try it right now to see if that will work. It I will post on here in the next few days if it does or does not work when you power down the pc an bring it back up again.

Does this have enough amps to power the radeon R9 285 graphics card?

Minimum PSU for that unit from company specs is a 500 watt unit, you should have more then enough to power that card then some.
