It works fine on an iMac. You will have to use the ports in the back though, since it  has no external power.

It should. I've seen reports of it not working with some macs but I would expect that it works with the MacBook Pro, especially the MacBook pros that do not have an internal optical drive.

your thumb drive is 'mini' storage; from there you can take it anywhere with you and plug it in to any computer to view pics

I can not give a definitive answer as I have not tried a mini-DVD with the SuperDrive. I think it is likely that the drive would read the mini-DVD's.

I believe so, the guys using it have updated all the way to the newest and it still works

I'm not aware of any third party holder for this super drive. From my experience using this product, it does fine without a holder. Then again, I don't use mine as much so I haven't had any issues.

The specs say "iMac late 2012 and later" -I'm running Yosemite on a late 2009 iMac with a broken superdrive- will it work? Thanks.
