Is it wireless?

The Modem is not Wireless.  It's sole function is to provide a Cable Internet Connection as it is a gateway device and has a unique internal address.  Most folks (including me) run a short Cat. 5 "Ethernet" cable from the output of this Modem to the input of a Wireless Router. Most all Wireless Routers have Ethernet slots to physically connect to computers, printers, and whatnot in addition to it's wireless capabilities.  In short, if you need a home network for multiple users or if your only device is wireless, then you must purchase a wireless router separately.  Overall, the modem is a fine reliable product.  I recently upgraded to this model myself.  The modem I had before was identical in appearance but the firmware is now rather old. Still and yet, my old Motorola Modem was running fine after seven years of being continuously powered up, just a bit slow due to the technology lag.  I hope this helps and good luck.

does it have wifi?

This is just a cable modem ... if you subscribe to cable internet it converts the cable signal to the ethernet signal.  You will need a wireless router connected to the output of the modem to get wifi access.

Is this modem compatible with Time Warner Cable ? Does it have a telephone port ?

This surf board like many others are compatible with time Warner cable.  It does not have a phone.   If you have twc with Internet and phone you will still need the twc supplied Internet / cable modem for phone.  They will no longer charge you the monthly $5 modem rental fee.   Installation is easy.  All you need to do is connect the surfboard and then call twc to give them the MAC address which is on the box.

is this a modem and router? and is it compatible with Time Warner Standard Internet?

No, it is just a modem and it only has one output, you'll need another network device (hub/switch/router) if you want to connect more than one device to the internet.

Yes, it is compatible with Time Warner Standard, I have that same service and it works perfectly. Keep in mind however that this modem will only do internet, not phone service. If you're looking to do phone through Time Warner as well then you will need a different device.

will this work for Comcast?

Yes this will work with Comcast but this one won't allow you to get their connection speeds greater than 25 Mps (I think this was the cutoff). If you want to get the full 50 Mps you will have to spend a little more. I have the SB 6121 and it works great with my Comcast connection.

does it matter which version of windows on computer ??

Not in my experience.  I installed in using Windows XP (a rather old PC) and now use the modem with Windows 7 and have not experienced any issues.

does this modem work well with cable tv internet and phone combo?

It does not have the proper connections to allow for phone service through it. The provider in my case Time Warner prefers that you use a modem they provide that does it all. I tried creating the split line but there was too much interference and my internet connection was constantly dropping and running very slow.

will this do Comcast phone and internet?

It will, however, I did some research and found reports that this specific modem doesnt have the highest certification. They seem to have a great working relationship with a company called Arris and seems that 1 of their cable modems works really well (CM550A) & it has the highest certification available with Comcast. However, if you wish to stay with Motorola, then the SB6121 also has the highest certification available, not to mention that it is available on this site.

I hope this helps in your future research towards getting a cable modem through Comcast.

No, this is solely a modem, you will need to purchase a wireless router separately to gain wireless connectivity. I suggest looking into netgear wireless routers as they tend to have the best product reviews. I have a net gear wireless extreme router and it works perfectly.

this modem does work with Comcast, according to them this modem is close to going out of date? I'm not sure i trust what the guy told me because it seem Comcast is always trying to sell me something. other that that is works  great.
