No.

There are two basic components of cable internet:

1.  modem - takes the cable signal and turns it into a signal on an ethernet wire - either direct into a computer, or, into a router.

2.  router.  A router provides sub-addresses (if you were to connect your modem direct into a computer through the ethernet connection of both, the computer would have one address, provided by the isp - the internet service provider - in this case the cable company.)  A router also usually provides two types of networks for local computers - a wired network, also known as a LAN, where everybody is connected with ethernet cables - and secondly a wireless network, or wi-fi - where you connect without a wire.  In all instances every device that connects to the router must have a sub-address, which is part of the service that the router provides.

This device is a modem, not a router.

There is such a thing as a combination modem/router, which is both devices in one.  I don't have such a device.

No, this is just a modem, you will need to purchase a separate router. I purchased a "Linksys WRT54GL 802.11b/g" router (it was a cheap option that had a number of good reviews for solid, basic performance) and have been happy with that. There are definitely good review articles on the internet (and newegg) if you are not sure about what router would be best for you.

i am not sure that any plain Cable modem has wifi, i think you need what is called a "gateway" wireless device (look-up at newegg.com or google it).. i use my MOTOROLA SB6141 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem along with my older linksys wireless router for the wifi function for my remote computers throughout my home, i don't have any ipads or i phone type devices. you probably should look at a MOTOROLA SBG901 SURFboard Wireless Cable Modem Gateway or a MOTOROLA SBG6580 SURFboard Wireless Cable Modem Gateway Ethernet Port DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS 3.0 depending on your requirements, both are available at newegg.com

Does this have a phone jack?

No, it does not have a phone jack.  The input signal comes from a coaxial cable input (from the cable company) and the output is a ethernet connector (looks like a large phone jack--but it's not a phone jack).  The only other connection is for the power cable.

The ARRIS SurfBoard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem is white.  I have purchased 5 of these over the years and they are all white.  The black ones appears to be a different model.

Yes, you would indeed need a separate router for wireless access as this modem does not include it.  Personally, I've been using an Asus RTN56U router with this modem for about a year now without issue, for simultaneous wired and wireless connections.

SB6141 is a wise choice for a cable modem.  Assuming your cable provider has their sh*t together, you'll never have an issue with it.  Good luck to you.

This is a standalone modem. It is not a router so you will need a separate device.  However this is one of the best consumer modems on the market. Honestly I prefer separate devices. I find devices that have everything built in seldom do anything well.

Hi, does anyone know if this modem is compatible with MAC computers? I;m about to buy an IMac... by the way I have Comcast as my ISP... thank you!

Whether you use a Mac, Windows, or even Linux computer makes no difference in this situation. What you will need to know is whether a particular model cable modem is approved for use by your ISP. According to Comcast's device compatibility list (you'll have to Google it, as I can't link to other sites here), this modem will work with their service. If you are planning to use any other networking-enabled devices (other computers, DVR, game consoles, etc. including wireless) in your home, you will need a router (wireless if wireless devices will be used) to go along with this. If you don't want to purchase two devices separately, Motorola makes a similar cable modem with integrated router and wireless access point functionality, model SBG6580. This can be found on Newegg's site here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825122014 Honestly, even if your new iMac is the one and only computer to be used in your home on the internet, I would still recommend the use of a router. Most consumer-grade routers provide some amount of security in keeping your local area network separate from the greater internet. Also, it's a bit more complicated to set up your internet connection directly on a computer without a router. Today's consumer routers normally come with some sort of software you run on a connected computer that makes the whole setup process foolproof. Hope this helps, and good luck!

If I purchase this modem, is it wireless, I run another computer ad a laptop, will this work?

This is not a wireless modem, but with the addition of a wireless router you can have a wireless network. The modem supports DHCP up to 40 clients. The real issue is the support of the modem (like firmware updates) can only be provided by the cable vendor. It's my understanding ISP  Time Warner does not update customer modems, consequently the purchase of this modem has been less than satisfactory, continue reboots and dropped internet connections. I give the Motorola modem a zero or any modem that can not be update by the user.
