Will this work with comcast/xfinity? Do not need the phone line i have anymore and i want to stop leasing their box. Also want the 5.0gHz band.

I am using this modem/router with Comcast/Xfinity internet without problems.  Comcast tech did the setup when they came out to install my service install.  I did check this model against Comcast's list of officially supported equipment and it was on the list.

does this support comcast phones?

No, it does not. Landline phone alternative was not a factor in my selection.  I wanted a device that could offer much faster download speeds (over my recently discontinued 4G WiMAX-ClearWire service) and current speedy AC home network speeds for future. Keep asking the right questions and do your research/homework!

This is a cable modem plus a router and has 4 cat5 connector. So you could connect 4 computers.

Can this modem function as the DHCP router for a gigabit wired network?

Yes. It's a Cable gateway, which means it's an integrated DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem, router (with multiple network DHCP server) and WAP (wireless access point). It supports "gateway mode" which disables the router and WAP for use with other routers and/or WAPs.

I have been looking for a modem/router combo, and I started my search with the very well-reviewed SBG6141.  The SBG6141 is only a modem, however.  The SBG6700-AC appears to contain all of the SBG6141's capabilities, plus those of a router.  My question is: will I get similar modem performance from this device (the SBG6700-AC) as I would from the SBG6141?
