how many fans can it support i think it is saying 1 cpu and 1 case fan is that true? if so is there somthing i can buy to use more fans on the morther board because the case im gonna out it in is saying it has two or three fans and if thats ture then this board can only do one i might need help

I installed this motherboard in a SilverStone Sugo Series SG05B. I have one large stock fan in the case (120mm) and a CPU fan.  The official stats for this board only support:

- 1 x CPU Fan Connector (4-pin)
- 1 x Chassis Fan Connector (4-pin)

If your power supply is sufficient, you can use a fan splitter (though you probably won't get "smart" control over each fan). Search NewEgg for "fan splitter".  Good luck with your build!

Question 2

this is what I got for running on this board.
AMD Athlon X4 860k,                                                                                                                                                        
Kingston 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333

along with brand new PSU and graphics card that is verified functional.
I am however not able to get a boot up screen.  fans do come on when power-up and if I remove the ram it does beep at me.
What can I do? I'm on the other side of the planet, so RMA is going to be a problem

I purchased the same AS Rock board and has the same problem. I had done some searching around and found that there is an updated BIOS chip for the board because apparently the board was made before the AMD X4 processor. I contacted AS Rock and requested an updated BIOS chip (which can be removed and replaced without soldering). The other problem I had is that the customer service at AS Rock was not very professional. Hopefully that has improved. Check the AS Rock website for processor/motherboard compatibility and contact them for the updated BIOS chip.

Question 4

Would someone provide specific recommendations for memory? I'm looking for 8GB (2 x 4GB) of 2133 or 1866 or 1600.

I have tried searching for ones on Asrock's Memory Support List, but of course the RAM on the list is either sold out or non-existent.

Since you mentioned max speed, I'll note that I am using G.SKILL F3-2400C11D-8GAB at the spec'd speeds. Games and video encoding run without problems.

Maybe.  The 95w power rating on the a10 7850k might put it close to the edge of this mini-ITX mb capability.  Safer to use another 4-core AMD chip with lower power requirements like an A8-6500 Richland 4.1GHz (when pushed) FM2 rated at just 65 watts.

I don't know the exact dimensions, as they are currently installed, and measuring would be quite difficult, but these seem to be standard mini ITX boards. Nothing seems to overhang in my ITX cases. Mini ITX standard is 170mm x 170mm. Hope this helps.

How does the HDMI-in work is it just plug and play?
Could you theoretically plug a game console or cable box?
If so how is the latency?

The HDMI does work as a input you just required to use software for it to recognize the signal. I have experience at this because I use my computer as a DVR and my HDMI out to my TV.

will this fit in hp pavilion slimline s3400f case?

I used this to upgrade my Gateway SX Series E1-1500 Desktop, which is also a slim case. So, it should probably fit. You just have to look at a top-down image of this board and compare where the screws will fit in your case as well as take some measurements (visualize how it'll fit in the case).

The only issue I had using this in a pre-built PC was the power button, front USB, and DVD tray case to motherboard cables weren't made long enough to reach their respective MB connectors. Luckily, I had some extra cables from an old case and was able to splice/extend them. If you're using the power supply that came with you HP case then MAKE 100% CERTAIN the power cable will reach the power connector on this motherboard once seated inside your PC case!

Lastly, this might not apply to you, but you'll need a full version of Windows if you're using this motherboard to upgrade an existing PC. Upgrading the motherboard is viewed as a new PC to Microsoft, and not all Windows licenses will transfer (google or call Microsoft to confirm this yourself). Unless you're using Linux since it'll take over soon anyways, then more power to you. =D

AMD FX has 4 core processors of various sockets. The socket type you're looking for is FM2 or FM2+ ONLY.

You can find a list of FM2/FM2+ processors by visiting

Newegg > Computer Hardware > CPUs / Processors > Processors - Desktops

Then filtering by "Socket CPU Type" and selecting "Socket FM2" and "Socket FM2+". Those are the only CPUs that Newegg sells that will fit this board.

Only if it's a socket FM2 or FM2+. If the CPU does not have a integrated video card, you'll probably need a seperate discreete video card.
