THe weight says 5 pound. i assume the bare laptop is under 3 pound right?

Way way under 5 pounds. The package list weight appears to be the shipping weight, including box, charger and manual. I throw mine in my laptop bag and forget it's even in there alongside my folders and junk. It's incredibly slim and light weight for sure. I'd estimate maybe 2.5 pounds total? At most?

Are there slots to add extra ram?

No, the RAM is soldered on for this model. I know 2 GB may seem low, but remember, this is chrome OS, a VERY lightweight OS built on the Linux Kernel. with only a 16GB drive, and 2 GB of Ram, think of it more like a keyboard based tablet.

My company has six of these which we use primarily for mobile AV presentations which feature content we stream from the cloud. For this tasking it is superb. This was the cheapest chromebook we could find with 802.11ac wifi. That awesome high speed wireless stream capability is its biggest selling point.
