It does NOT come with an external mouse. I was able to connect my wireless mouse to it from my previous laptop.

This uses Chrome Operating System. It is not windows, so it does not run windows applications that you are probably familiar with. However, it can run Android versions of Adobe applications. They may however be limited. The whole operating system is designed around chrome browser so for internet you neither need nor can run IE. And to be honest, I don't know why you want to. That is the literally worst internet browser in existence. You do not need flash player since the Chrome automatically handles flash files. Again, this is NOT windows. But you're better off that way.

Is it possible to upgrade this with a standard internal ssd?

No, a standard SSD will not fit in this slim case. The ASUS C300SA-DH02 has 16GB eMMC which barely gives you 2gb of internal storage space left after the OS. If your Chromebook is still under warranty, and you need to add more storage, I would go with a SD Flash card instead of cracking the case open. You could also go with a USB Flash drive, but at risk of bumping, or use the cloud storage provided, I believe it's 100GB free for 2 years.

The caption says 2GB, the description and the specs say 4gb.  How much memory does this have?

This looks like the same model I purchased a while back, the box said 4gb, but I honestly never knew how to check until I googled the answer. I just loaded an app called "System Viewer" and it shows I currently have 3.81gb of memory left with the system running. If you need to save data to your Chromebook, you will need to add a SD card or have USB flash.
