does this model have a disk /dvd drive?

The unit does not come with a DVD. I was aware of that when I bought it. I have several methods of external input including a DVD on the USB port. The unit works fine and priced well. I'm not a fan of Windows 8 and may put Windows 7 on instead. will try a program called Classicshell that suppose to make Windows 8 easier. The HDD is a 350 gb drive unformated and formats out to about 280gb. So far I am happy with the unit but have not had the time to explore how I really want to use it. I suspect I'll give to my wife to eliminate her tower unit and she seldom every needs a DVD> Again, if so, we can easily attach an external unit. Once out of warranty, I might increase the HDD size, but if I give it to her it won' be necessary as I have a DELL E1505 that also does everything for me when I'm not using my tower.

Is this a solid state hard drive?

No.  HDD=hard disk drive, SSD=solid state disk.  Unfortunately, it's hard to find systems at low or even moderate price points configured with SSDs, so you either end up paying high-end system prices to get one, or have to ditch the HDD and swap in an SSD yourself (which can typically be purchased for much less than the upgrade price on configurable systems).  It's a shame more low-end systems aren't configured with them or at least small SSD caches given the cost/benefit vs. other upgrades.

When i purchased it (early november) it came with the free trial version but no full version. So you gotta dish out the cash, sorry.

No it does not. However, it is easy to attach an external unless you travel. If I travel with it, I'll simply put what I need on the unit before doing so. Or put the data on a flash drive.

none, it's not like a desktop where you can just swap out a new video card, with a laptop you need to buy it built in. there are very limited upgrade options.

what is the weight of the laptop?  One site says it's 4.1lb, the other said 6lb. The weight is actually an important factor for me. Thankyou.

I cannot provide the exact weight as I do not have a scale that reads it. All I can say is it is probably more like 4 lbs as it seems very light and easy to carry. Sorry, best info I can provide.
