How Much noise does it make ?  I assume since it has an SSD, that part is quiet, right?  But what about fan noise?

I own this same model - there really isn't much noise at all.  If you are actively watching video or working on something intensive, you may hear a very slight whirring sound but the sound of my typing (or even the cars passing by on the street outside my house - and I live in a small neighborhood) easily overrides that so I don't really hear it at all.

who makes the ssd  drive in this?

Mine has a Micron_1100_MTFDDAK512TBN (MTFDDAK512TBN-1AR1Z to be more exact, which is the unencrypted version. I ran AS SSD Benchmark (v1.9.5986) on it, and compared it to a 512GB Samsung 840 EVO and 1TB Samsung 850 EVO. The Micron SSD fared better than the 840 and matched or was only a small percentage under the 850 EVO.

Does it have replaceable battery?

No. The battery is built-in and the user guide specifies it is not customer replaceable.

Does it have Ram extension slot facility apart from 8GB?

Yes. 8 Gig Memory on board and it has 1 slot to add 8 more 16 Gig Max. That answer is about half way down on the specs on the page. These machines are fast with the SSD drives.

Is the keyboard backlit?

Not only is the keyboard not backlit, it also doesn't have indicators for Caps Lock, Num Lock or Scroll Lock (on the keyboard or anywhere else on the laptop). I downloaded a small app to display those settings on screen.

Does this only have the SSD for memory and no HDD?

Yes it only has 512 GB SSD, there is no other hard drive.

Does it have space to add storage? An ssd, m.2, or hdd slot?

The only expansion this laptop has is an open slot for a 2nd memory DIMM. You could replace the SSD with a larger one if you are comfortable taking the laptop apart. The one in there in the laptop I have is a Micron_1100_MTFDDAK512TBN. It's a 7mm standard SSD, not an M.2 version.

Why is the 940mx listed as having DDR3?  i thought the M was DDR3 and the MX is DDR5.

The graphics chip has GDDR5. All modern graphics cards use GDDR5.
