Yes, the keyboard is backlit. You can turn it on and off with the function + F3 and F4 keys. Seems to have about 3 brightness settings.

I didn't find any signs of previous use when I got my laptop. It looks brand new right out of the box. As for functionality, no worries there. It works as it should right out of the box. Again, like it as brand new. Probably just didn't sell before the "best of sold by"  type expiration date came up. They had to retest the laptop and then sell it for less as a refurbished laptop. You should get a solid buy with this laptop. No worries about the quality. I thoroughly enjoy mine. Not at all sorry for buying it. If you're looking for a decent fast potentially gaming type laptop for a decent price, I would suggest this one.

Question 3

Since this is refurbished, is it guaranteed that all hardwares work properly without any problems?

The one I purchased had so much malware  and viruses it wasn't usable  but I needed it for school so I couldn't send it back and wait for it to get fixed. I had to get it fixed by a local shop. I wouldn't recommend the refurbished unit to anyone.

the listing for this laptop doesnt list what the outputs are. does it have USB and HDMI out? how many? thanks

Bought this for my wife......she runs AutoCAD and loves it.  It has 4 USBs, a full size HDMI, Ethernet and VGA outputs.

How hot does this laptop get after a long session of gaming?

Almost no problems from anything I've done with it so far, except I do make sure to keep it plugged in since gaming drains the battery very quickly.  Doesn't get too horribly hot either.  I game on my desk and have a fan in the room.

Only one problem is that I've had the driver for the graphics card suddenly restart twice in the past month, killing my game.  Tried upgrading to all the latest drivers but I'm honestly not sure about the issue.

Is there a space for a second drive? I'd like to have an SSD with the OS and programs on it.

Not by default, no. However, assuming all you want to do is add an SSD, you can get a DVD-to-SATA conversion bay and install the HDD in the slot where the DVD drive is now and install the SSD where the HDD is now.

It has to be HDD->DVD SLOT and SSD->HDD SLOT though. There are major speed differences between the two connections and you won't see the right amount of performance from your SSD if you do it the other way around.
