Pros: 512 dedicated video ram, Port layout is better than most with no front ports. (nothing worse than a hedphone cable in the way of your gut.) Size and weight. DVI and VGA ports! Metal latches in the lid vs flimsy plastic ones.
Cons: lcd sucks overcast of blue and narrow FOV. most laptop displays suck this way. In sleep mode often the lcd doesnt turn back on. The big complaint is the GFX. This laptop will only update with the ASUS released drivers which are almost never. You have to use hacked inf to update the drivers. I have yet to find any drivers that are all around GOOD drivers. I use 3dsmax 7, game, video encode, and 2d. One driver works great for max has bad overlay, etc . All the little buttons are applet driven! Not firmware as they SHOULD be. So it means you end up running something like 5 applets to get functionalitiy at the sacrafice of cpu and ram. Buttons should be firmware and not dependant on OS applets. BAD ASUS. A few of the included hotfixes will break the os. EXP the cpu one on the cd. Ram was loose on delivery, the retainers dont seem to secure it well caused some issues when installing xp pro. The wireless recption blows too. Thumpad btns feel cheap, bulges in the middle.
Overall Review: In all total at the time I bought this NO ONE had a system with stats like this for the price. If it wasnt for the driver issues, bad wireless, and hotfix issues I would have rated this 5 star. The lcd thing I havent figured out, its either driver, HDW, or OS related. I have XPpro SP2 on this right now. Mostly for security and features when hooking up to messy networks. Id buy another but wouldnt recomend it to "pc n00bs", for those I recomend a Compaq or HP. I get about 3hours out of this thing without the power miser stuff on. IE gaming or doing 3d modeling. It is also quieter than the turion Compaq I had. Just dont place your cola on the right side of the laptop unless you like hot soda. Only heats up badly when really taxing the system.
