Does this come with a disk for Windows 7, or just one for Windows 8?

Came pre-loaded with Windows 7 Pro (64-bit), and 3 disks: (1) Driver Disk, (1) Windows 8 Pro, and (1) Nero 12 Essentials.  Machine came with minimal crapware installed, so the clean-up was fairly painless, but the machine did have the original Windows 7 install, so took several Windows Updates to get the machine current - several hours.  Great machine though - have bought 4 of these so far, and recommended to several people.

What vid card with at least I Gig will work in this case and with the 300 W power supply? I bought it this week and I am being told that the on board vid card is not fast enough for 3D CT dental scans. I need to buy a more powerful card.

Charles, sorry but I can't answer that question for you. I bought my machine for mostly photo editing and potentially video editing. I am not super knowlegeable about the inner workings of computers. I did some on-line research about the video card that came with the machine as it would relate to the editing I need it to do and it looks good for my usage. I could see where 3D scans would require up a lot more speed and data capacity. Think about the faster gaming oriented video cards.

What type of extra hard drive connection cables does it have inside? i want to buy an SSD to go with it but there are different types of connections.

it has power and room for one extra hard drive, but you will need a sata cable. be careful opening it it is complicated and the front has to come off before you lift up on the drive tray.

can this hold a 2nd hard drive?

Yes but it is not easy to do. You have to remove the front cover; un-do the side latches; disconnect the cables to the CD and primary HDD and then you can slide a second one in

can this computer support a monitor with 2560 x 1440 resolution?

No not with the onboard video--you have to add a graphics card for that - also note that the PC comes with a 1 year warranty and not a 3 year as advertised.

How is the default memory configured?  (are there open slots?)

It comes with four (4) slots and loaded with 8 GB of RAM from the factory. With the four slots, I can take a total of 64 GB by using four 8 GB sticks. If I am not mistaken, it came with two (2) 4 GB sticks that took up 2 of the 4 slots.  When I ordered the computer I also ordered an extra 8 MB stick and added another four GB stick for a total of 24 GB of RAM right now. It is pretty fast and I work with high-end graphic software applications like AutoCad and ArcMap that require RAM intensive screen redraws. I am still planning on replacing the 4 GB sticks with 8 GB sticks and maxing out the memory to 64 GB at some point. I hope this helps.

Just bought this and excited to get it going!  A few questions:

1) Will the ASUS PCE-N15 PCI Express Wireless Adapter work in this box?

2) Is there an online manual that provides instructions on opening the case?  (I read the computer reviews on another site and someone was complaining about a warning message 'case opened' message that wouldn't let the machine initiate the BIOS.)

So while I've always pulled my machines apart to upgrade them, that review has me a little spooked.  Anything I need to aware of?

Can that adapter card be installed through the back without even opening the case?

I did not open this case to install anything so I can't be too sure but generally speaking:

1. this desktop has integrated graphics so there should be a free PCIe port for your wireless adapter to be installed
2.  i did not open the case so I don't know about that 'case opened' issue but I've opened many computer cases and never were there any incidences where opening the case would affect the bios.  Just make sure the area where you are working is free of static.
3. if the wireless adapter is PCIe, there is no way to install without opening the case.

Does anyone know whether the warranty is covered on-site by Newegg or ASUS and how reliable has it been?  Thanks

I believe that the warranty is covered by ASUS - Newegg has a statement somewhere on their site about this. If it's a straight return then it might be Newegg you deal with. I have had the machine about a month and it has been a great replacement for the HP desktop I had which never did work right. I have built machines w/ ASUS parts before and was always happy with them. I am using 2 screens w/ it. Also, I am using Windows 7 Pro which comes w/ the machine. I would buy it again at this point.
