Does this chromebook have the cd port? My son wants a laptop for Christmas but I need one that runs well for games, to insert game cds and school?.

A chromebook will typically run USB attached external devices like a cd/dvd or harddrive.  I have only used a external harddrive and it runs fine.

The issue I believe that is more to your point...a Chromebook is not designed to run traditional software.  A Chromebook comes with its own version of spreadsheet/document/slide presentation programs so you can do all things a traditional computer can do in that regard (even read excel/word/powerpoint files) so it works well for school.  A Chromebook can also use the Microsoft Online version app for using excel/ppt/word.  It just does not run software based programs like Apple/Microsoft that is loaded directly to a computer.

A Chromebook runs on app based programs when connected to the internet which it must be to be fully functional.  There are plenty of games available for Chrombook...just not the traditional games you load with software.

For advanced users, I have read a second OS (Linux) can be loaded to run traditional software and games if your son is tech savvy...lots of caveats however for the not-quite-expert level.

For ease of use, $$$, and all around usage for a connected (key word) world...Chromebooks are great.   For traditional software based programs...not so much.

does it support flash player so that I can log onto pogo games
 without any problems?
...I cannot do that on a tablet.

Yes, This computer does support flash player, and is nice for playing flash games. But it is not very powerful, in my experience there has not been any games I could not run, but there are some that are a little slow or laggy. I have never really used Pogo before, but I got on the site and loaded a couple games and they ran fine.

Easy answer 15 Hours

I am on my computer every day from 7 am until 10 pm, with work, and facebook nonsense, and streaming youtube quite often. I charge the battery at night while im sleeping, and it last all day. It has never ran out of charge and died on me through out the day. 
I do turn it off every few days to process updates and just to give it break, and maintain healthy battery life. 
If you travel often as I do, and will not be seeing your computer for long periods of time, I recommend storing it with 50% battery, that is the best for the battery life.

Yes, most of its functions work with WIFI. It's main storage is on the cloud.

does this come with microsoft office software including word and excel?

No - a Chromebook is basically just a web browser. If you have a Microsoft Office365 subscription and use their web versions, then you can edit Word and Excel docs. It does however get you Google Docs, which has replaced 80% of my personal Office needs.

Is this loaded with windows 8.1 ?

No.  Not at all.  This comes with Google's Chromium OS.  Which is basically just- imagine if your laptop only had Chrome(the web browser) on it.  That's pretty much what this is like.

Minus, well... it has a file browser, and wifi control.  Things that are necessary for a laptop...

It weighs about 2 maybe 2.5 pounds at most....it is very light especially if you are used to a full size notebook computer.

Where are speakers located?

They are located along the bottom left and right sides (along the edges).  They are pretty close to the front.  So far for me they never sound blocked or muffled when I have it on my lap, though I suppose your mileage may vary depending on how "cushy" ones lap is.  :)   The speakers sound suprisingly good for such a small laptop too.
